Doing a "Search" for an answer hasn't proved successful so...

Just curious at this point since I'm using the space for the power block, but what was Yamaha's intended use for the plastic/area where yellow arrows are pointing? (on a 2007A). Looks like a specific fit for something but I don't have a guess what it is. Anyone know?

Wow, been a while since that has been discussed.

Clearing out the cobwebs from my memory - I believe the consensus was that for Gen I FJRs it was designed for a Yamaha U-lock. Looks like it would be the same for Gen II FJRs.

Yup, I missed reading the 03-05 BOF facts since I own an 07... and my printed out and carry-at-all-times BOF for the 06 doesn't mention #1. :p That said, what is a U-Lock?? (searching "U-Lock returned 1000+ answers, none of which were helpful). While I'm at it, might you clarify what constitues a Gen I/II FJR? Some of us are very new to the FJR world ya know.

Google is your friend: Clicky HERE young grasshopper for the path of U-Lock enlightenment

Gen I FJRs are pre-2006 FJRs. For north america, that would be the 03-05 FJRs. Gen II then starts at the 06s. Relatively minor changes in the FJR during the 2003-2005 model years. Even though the 06 and 07 models look pretty close, there were actually significant changes.

You're welcome.

Grasshoppertte is trying to think in sport-touring and Yama-terms and indeed missing the bigger picture... o, THAT u-lock.. the one everyone lugs under the seat taking up valuable real estate?

So, I'm a Gen II Grasshopperette... got it. ;)

They are for cutting off so that you can have a nice flat spot for mounting the 12 lug blue seas ;)

Ok Scooter, You've got me interested. What were/are the significant changes?

Please go ask that in another thread as this is about the plastic thingy under the seat.

....looks like somebody needs to accumulate a list of differences like the Bin-O-Facts from this often asked and rehashed subject. If only there were 25 hours in the day.

My thought exactly... my first post in FJRville here went into off-topic never never land and I'd like to focus on the thinggy if possible.

I highly considered doing the same but was concerned w/a viable weather seal. What did you use, v65, to whack the thinggy and put in it's special place? :download:

You'll have to excuse us... Some of us have been around this forum and its predecessor for quite some time. And every time a new batch of bikes lands at dealers, we get bombarded with the same bunch of questions by new owners. Unfortunately, we get frustrated by answering the same questions over and over again. Kind of makes us feel, well, unloved ya know.

Perhaps the admins should issue some mandatory 30-minute computer based trainings on the BOF's, NEPT's, and the SEARCH function for new registrants?!?

AGirl,

I posted the original mod here:

old thread on cutting plastic

The plastic you use turns out to be an important issue. After I got done cutting apart my shop vac wands for the small pieces, I needed a large piece of flat plastic. Originally I tried a piece from a plastic paint tray that I got from the local hardware store. That stuff was harder than, well it was really hard. I tried all kinds of epoxies (and sanding it to make it rough) with no success. Eventually I found another piece of plastic that was used for house numbers that was more easily glued. I ended up using JB Weld on all of the pieces in the end.

BTW, insert a smiley on the end of my last post concerning iggy: :D

We appeal to their reading and comprehension ability at registration so that when we forget it....we can tease them about it. (I'll leave that new thread open for a bit in case they want to leave this thread to.....oh....I guess.....plastic thingies)

They're part of the flapdoodle family, and closely related to the Goobers. Got that ?
