Future Cars

I watched this special on the discovery channel talking about what cars would be like in the future.

They already have designed the prototypes and are working on these things. They are small, very small, have a computer instead of windsheild, you don't see out of them, and the driving is totally automated.

The advantages were that they would be able to eliminate traffic jams via complicated computer algorithms and traffic monitoring cameras.

It would virtually eliminate car accidents. Car accidents are something like the 10th most common cause of death.

All cars are equiped with sensors and you basically just type in where you want to go. No more getting lost (although gps took care of that)

They are suppposed to travel at very high speed.

You could bypass traffic in emergency situations (police, fire, ambulence...)

Disadvantages, You don't get to drive!!

What about motorcycles???

Who gets sued if one of these things does malfunction and crash???

I can't even imagine what would happen if some hackers got into the system.

Definately interesting, I encourage any of you to watch it just to see the engineering that goes into these cars, but kinda scary.

It would make me really sad if I couldn't go on road trips any more....

They have been testing this stuff for years on I-5. I rode past a two cars. Neither driver was driving the car...they were just sitting there, hands off wheel, doing 65 about 3 feet apart. It was pretty cool.
