Talked to Greg today around noon.. He tells me his 04 silver FJR is four years old today.... Happy Birthday Skooter-mobile, and it will have only 116,000 miles on it by days end... All I can say is I need to ride more...

When I spoke with him he just crossed back into the USA from Canada. He is tired but not sleepy... thats a good thing. He said it took some time to get back into the US, but all is well.. Ride safe Skoot....

Where'd he cross? Wondering if he's still on track for Grand Marais.

To bad he won't be able sample a couple of cold ones from the Lake Superior Brewing Co. at the Dunes Saloon. Nice little town.

Skoot is currently 90 miles north of Milwaukee, feeling good, trying to decide for Chicago tonight or overnighting in Milwaukee and grabbing two timed bonus's there.

He sounds a LOT better than he did yesterday.

Here's the lastest on Skooter, from the IBR website;

The weather was beautiful yesterday on the Gaspe Peninsula, but riders returning to St. Louis through the Chicago area were again getting beat up by Mother Nature. David Smith was spying on riders at Buckingham Fountain last night, a bonus he was responsible for scouting. He observed riders Greg Marbach and Vance Keeney trying desperately to get an acceptable photo of their rally flags in front of a dimly-illuminated fountain. David says that Polaroid stock should be going up sharply tomorrow.
Skoot should be back safely in St. Louis soon, where Smitty and I will direct him to a bed straighforth! :D

Edit: Whoops, I see Warchild posted this already in it's entirety, so this might be a double post. Sorry!

Spoke to him a little while ago. He expects to roll into St. Louis around 4:00pm local time. He's hoping to get in early enough to dry out his boots and any other gear that may still be wet. If you guys have anything that might help dry out his boots, you might want to take it with you.

He's feeling great right now and is really excited about getting to the checkpoint. He's assuming he's going to score well in the first leg, and is well rested. He sounded like he could take on anything they could throw at him.... with the exception of rain.

As I just mentioned in another post, Skooter made it in with time to spare. He bagged some points in Chicago and took a leisurely ride back down to St. Louis this afternoon, beating the weather. He is in good spirits and I think he will leap out there tomorrow ready to head west and make this the ride of his life!

I'm not sure what his point total is yet, but I think he did well on Leg 1. Smitty changed his oil and tires tonight and his bike is good to go. No problems at all.

Oh, and I gave him an old hair dryer to dry out his boots! That was my major contribution tonight ... ha!

Look for another post in a few minutes that will show Smitty in action! :yahoo:

Bump.

Has any one heard anything from /about Skooter? He has a fighting chance for top 10 here and his spirits were good when he came in Friday night.

I sure am rootin' for him (as I know we all are) and would like to hear how he is doing. :clapping:

Spoke to him a bit Saturday night. He's having trouble with his planning and doesn't have a concrete plan in place. He's somewhat flying by the seat of his pants right now, but has every intention of finishing the rally. Only time will tell if his 'fly by the seat of his pants' plan will work out in his favor or not.

Thanks for the update! Please post any other contact you have with him, so we can keep tabs on him and encourage him. Let him know we're all with him!

Go Skoot! :yahoo:

Heres Skooter just climbing off the bike Friday, giving the work order to one of Smitty's crew. Can everybody say Toast!

Bout and hour later he came down to check on his bike, fed watered, and shined up, talk about bounce back, looked fresh and ready to roll again.

Good shot Airboss! That's me talking to Skoot about his broken sunglasses, which he covets and apparently wanted to keep using! Notice one side is shortened and the other side is completely broken off.

Actually, I thought he was remarkably upbeat before he even got off the bike! I was trying to pump him up even more.

I did bring him a hair dryer to dry out his boots. That was my major contribution to the FJR team, besides the emotional encouragement I tried to give him and Doug. :D
