Bleh - looks like bug antennae to me :(
That's a very insightful observation you've made there. I thought the same thing (seven months later).

Another reminder that I'm neither unique nor original :dntknw:
This wasn't a poll.

Just 'cuz you think it doesn't mean you have to say it out loud. Some people like it...some don't...like all things FJR.

'Rocket gave a good help to those that may want it. I know this is not a big deal...but if you don't like it...yer post is not adding anything to the Forum 'cept noise.

What was my point?

I was making fun of myself.

Jeez man, that wasn't a shot at FZ1 mirrors, that was a shot at myself.

Good grief!

So after logging over 400 miles this weekend, I can safely say that swapping the stock Gen II FJR mirrors for the '05 FZ1 mirrors is beyond a shadow-of-a-doubt the 2nd best improvement I've made to my bike (the first being the custom seat built by Rich O'Conner in Seattle). F*** aesthetic; these mirrors are AWESOME! I cannot believe how dramatically rear-ward visibility has improved. At ~$100, this mod rates highest of the high on "Bang-for-the-Buck" meter. :D

...the shorter bushings that Skyway supplies with the bracket kit may be exactly what's needed.
I swapped out the longer stock mirror mount bushings for the shorter bushings (compliments of madmike2 - thanks again, Mike!) that Skyway supplies with the Soltek bracket kit and re-mounted the FZ1 mirrors (the tutorial posted by kaitsdad on changing those bushings was very helpful indeed!). The fit is now literally factory perfect! You could not convince me that these mirrors were not specifically designed for this bike. :D

I just wanted to reiterate a few things here. First, Sockmonkey is absolutely right about the shorter bushings from Skyway. I emailed Skyway and had him send me a set (THANKS AGAIN!). They fit perfectly and there is absolutely no vibration whatsoever.

And even more importantly, for all of us newbies, when the Bin-O-Facts tells you to make sure that your mirrors are tight, you should listen!

I took the dash panels off to change my left mirror out and one of the nuts was almost completely off. Don't take it for granted that these are ok.

I am not sure who supplies what and for how much  Where can I obtain a set of short-bushing mirror mounts and what is the price. :dribble:

Thanks

You may be taking a dremel tool to your OEM bushings.

Orrr...finding some tubing of the same diameter and cutting that.

I'm not aware of anyone currently making the shorter bushings.

Uh...anyone? Hal?

When working with joe2lmaker last year with his mirror extender experiment, McMaster-Carr was a good source for bushings.

(+1 on the insect antenna eyes look)

I just happen to have a spare set of 2008 FZ1 mirrors after I changed them out for some bar end mirrors. The rubber boots on those mirrors sure don't look like they will fit with the FJR. Are ya'll saying that the FZ1 mirrors are a simple bolt on with no mods?

I ended up buying a dremel tool and ground down the stock bushings a little at a time to get the bottom of the rubber boot flush with the fairing on my 08. I needed a dremel for years for various other things. So I finally broke down and bought one. The FZ1 mirrors are one of the best farkles I've ever done to my FJR. That encludes my old 04 an my new 08. If you are seeing even a small amount of elbows or fingers at the end of the grips, this will help you see behind you like you should be able to. Personally, I think it is much safer being able to see what is going on behind you. But then again there are some of us that are too worried about how cool they look on their bikes to have longer rear view mirrors. :)

Yes, Gen 1 FZ-1 mirrors will fit, IIRC the part numbers are listed in the Bin-O'-Facts (perhaps in Gen I and Gen II). The bolt/stud spacing is the same and they bold on once you cut off some of the metal spacer in the rubber mount.

Gen II FZ-1 mirrors (2006-?) will not fir as they changed the angles in the fairing and mirror mounts.
