Short answer... not really.

It is faster, and more than anything, it "feels" much faster because of less wind protection, lighter, little less stable at high speed.

search for FJR FZ1 site:fjrforum.com and you can find a fair amount of reading.

Also you can look at comparo's on the FZ1owners forum.

Who cares about the FZ-1. Or the FJR for that matter.

I wanna know the story behind Keith's new avatar!

I think if you dropped them both out of a C130 at 20,000 feet the fjr would hit the ground first as it is heavier......so therefore quicker :D

Engine - 2009 FJR1300A / 2009 FZ1

Bore x Stroke - 79 x 66.2mm / 77 x 53.6mm

Carburetion - Fuel Injection / Fuel injection

Compression Ratio - 10.8:1 / 11.5:1

Final Drive - Shaft / O-ring chain

Ignition TCI: - Transistor Controlled Ignition / TCI: Transistor Controlled Ignition

Transmission - 5-speed; multiplate wet clutch / 6-speed w/multi-plate clutch

Type - 1298cc liquid-cooled inline 4-cylinder; / 998cc liquid-cooled inline 4-cylinder

DOHC, 16 valves ; / DOHC, 20 valves

I would say the FZ1 is faster, lighter, 6 speed transmittion 5 valves per cyclinder .

But the real reason it's faster? IT'S BLUE!!!!!!! :yahoo:

EDIT: Damn this software as hard as I tried to make two colums it would not co-operate.

Yes the FZ1 is faster. I had an 06. It was dyno'ed at 126 at the rear wheel. Add to that a body that equalled just over 400 lbs. The FJR as seen from other peoples dyno is 123 at the rear wheel on a body that weighs close to 700 lbs.

Do the math.

Unless they have fixed the fuel system on the 08 FZ1 you are going to spend money on Ivans kit just to get it running right. The FJR needs a PCIII to fix the same issue.

Hope this answers your question.

I've owned 2 Gen 1 FZ1's.... they are much quicker than the FJR, if anyone cares (I don't). There is almost a second difference in the 1/4 mile.

If I wanted fast, i would have kept my Busa. I out grew that.

Both machines can get you in an equal amount of trouble, if that's what you're really asking.

What i want to know is the FZ1 a lot quicker than the FJR

My highly tuned dyno'd arse compared to racing against a Gen I and a Gen II (Gen II reduced rear teeth by 2) discovered several things. The Gen I FZ1 may be faster. THe Gen II really came down to rider experience. We made multiple runs up to around 90MPH from a 20MPH rolling start. One time I might lead, the other the FZ1 might lead. Several times my rear wheel broke free and spun me up to about 40MPH then grabbed, lept me forward raising the front wheel and I then ran from him. At the end of it all, the FZ1 riders both said, "Damn that thang is fast!"

I was running with side bags on only, but empty.

I would honestly say, the winner would most likely lean towards the more experienced rider.

You have failed to account for torque. Math lesson...failed! ;)

Comparing the wet weight for the two for '09:

the FJR is at 641 lbs with a 6.6 gal. tank and

the FZ1 is at 485 lbs with a 4.75 gal tank

Assuming 10 pounds per gallon of fuel:

the FJR would weigh 575 dry, with bags

the FZ1 would weigh 437.5 dry and butt neckid

-that's only a difference of 137.5 lbs in favor of the FZ1, with a 300cc smaller motor-it starts looking a little more even now!

as far as TORQUE:

fjr forum member "constant mesh" says that the FJR is at 99 lb-ft @ 7,000 rpm

https://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:mYaOK...;cd=1&gl=us

while the fz1 is rated at 78.2 lb-ft @ 8000 rpm

that's a difference of 20.8 lb-ft in favor of the FJR!

this sounds like it would be an interesting race-anyone found some real track time data?

Yes it is. And with the FJR you can do it with a passenger on board. And the FJR is better for long distances IMHO.
