I read many entries on this forum regarding addressing the sensitive throttle on my 07 and I appreciate all the information from other FJR riders. I finally took action!

The G2 throttle tamer, along with a Power Commander III, were installed at the same time on my 2007 Yamaha FJR1300 to address a very sensitive throttle and surging that made low speed control extremely difficult and unpleasant (problem is inherent with 06 & 07).

The throttle now works outstanding at low speed without any surging. I am able to idle around corners smoothly or gently let out the clutch without throttle and idle along smoothly at low speed. I'm not sure how much is attributed to the G2 and how much to the PCIII but the combined results are excellent.

I think my gas mileage is down by about 2-3 mpg. I was getting 38-39 mpg on last trip fully loaded bags/trunk with two passengers.

In my case, the results far exceed what I expected and have completely eliminated the issue. Totally different bike. I wish I would have done this sooner!

your bike was surging at low speeds. Did it have the "altitude sickness" recall done? The recall solved that on my 07.

I had two 07's. The first one I installed the G2 and it made it better as far as throttle snatch is concerned. The surging was still there. I later bought another 07 with PCIII and G2. The bike had the altitude recall done as well. That bike performed flawlessly.

I hand filed the stock tube to copy the G2 and found it made a difference on my '06

Then installed the PC V and flashed Wally's Smoothness map.

I just did the recall and unwound the throttle spring one time and it is as smooth as any bike I've ridden. And I ride at high altitudes with allot of elevation changes. Before the recall, my wife wondered if I knew WTF I was doing. I must have gotten lucky. It's good you got it fixed.

Dad's '07 was afflicted with the low speed surging and the twitchy throttle. While some folks can just "ride around it" and some bikes seem to be worse than others, Dad suffered miserably. After doing extensive research and listening to the best (and worst) minds on this forum, I installed the PC-V. Yes, we did lose about 2 mpg. A worthwhile trade-off.

It was a night and day difference. I was thoroughly pleased with myself, and Pop was even impressed with me. Until one day we took a ride with a friend of mine. While we were taking a break and kicking tires, I heard Pop tell my friend, "He fixed all that bucking and jumping it used to do but I wish there was some way to make the throttle as smooth as the one on his Honda."...

I ordered the G2 Throttle Tamer that night.

I still pat myself on the back for how well that bike behaves. Smooth as butter. With a smoother throttle control the transmission seems to shift easier and smoother, what we previously thought was excessive driveline slack and snatch has disappeared, and Pop loves the bike.

**WARNING** If you think you have done yourself some good by installing these fixes DO NOT under any circumstances ride the Gen3 bikes. As smooth as you think that throttle is, the 2014 is just that much better.

What parts are different on say a 2013 bike from the 06/07 bikes? If you had a wrecked 13 could you swap some parts from the 13 to the 06/07 bike to fix the problems?

I don't see any cost effective way to do that.

1) The fuel map is in the ECU. The ECU is no way interchangeable between the Gen 2 and Gen 3. Reflashing the ECU is being discussed with little apparent success elsewhere on this forum. If they make it happen, that would be great. Making that happen might cost less than the Power Commander, then again it might not.

2) The cable pulley on the '06 & '07 at the throttle body end was egg shaped. That pulley is now attached to a sensor instead of the throttle bodies. The Gen 3 is "Throttle by Wire" but the cables still run down almost to the throttle bodies. You would be better served retrofitting the pulley from a later Gen 2 ('08-'12). I have no memory of anyone doing that. It is easier to buy and install the G2 Throttle Tamer.

For now, a Power Commander V and the G2 are the easiest way to go. There are other options but I don't think the parts from a '13 or '14 are going to be an easy option.

Well, I worked out the fueling issues associated with a 2007 with 1,700 miles. And plugged in a PC V and what has gone from an underperforming less-than-copacetic assemblage of metal, plastic, and rubber is now more like my fat mistress with incredible talents in bed. She is fat but golly Ned I love her. Would the G2 bit the G spot?

Oops! I meant a late model gen 2 like a 12 . The last year for the gen 2. So it should read:

An interesting idea but seems like a lot of work as compared to the installation of a PC V and filing the throttle tube.

I put on the G2 awhile ago. Its not bad but I'm thinking about the PC V and am wondering about the fuel map. I need to do the valve adjust and was going to put in the pair block off plates so I figured as long as I'm in there maybe I could swap out the throttle cam on the intake.

The "Wallys Smoothness Map" can be converted to use with the PC V and works great.

Easy to install and easy to adjust.

Looks like it might be a quite a bit of work to change the throttle cam.

Don't bother JUST changing the throttle pulley. Keep a sharp eye out for an '08 - '10 used throttle body. You won't regret it.

Damn, Jeff....

I've seen three or four replies from you tonight (3/19/14).

Good to see you back again. Your technical expertise is greatly appreciated.
