I'm looking into a FZ1/FJR and would like to ride one first to test erogs and wind buffet. I've owned lots of bikes and just got rid of Vstrom becuase of head shake/blurry vision/wind roar.

I live north of Atlanta and would like to swap rides for a little bit. We can ride side by side. I have a bad hip/back so seating position is real important. You'd be doing me a big favor, I can't afford to keep buying and selling bikes that don't fit. I'm 43 and no crashes or tickets, I ride over 20,000 miles/year.

My current ride is a '05 GL1800, great ride, smoooooth, lots of power/comfort.

My friend has both the GL1800 & the FZ1 and when he rides the GL he's in heaven when going down the interstate but looses me when I carve up the mountains. Then when he brings his FZ1, he can keep up with me, but he has such a little windshield the wind buffet, is so bad he wished he brought his GL. Plus his GL has all the accessories and his FZ1 doesn't have room for all the gadgets he'd like. I let him ride my bike and he seemed to really like the fact how smooth and powerful it was, the seating was very comfortable, and has the best characteristics of both of his bikes. Maybe you can email Fizzy and ask him specifically about the differences, but I think you'll be pleasantly happy with adding the FJR to your arsenal, he's deeply thinking about it.

I have a GL1800 and an FJR, they are completely different. The Wing is second to none in touring and comfort, the Feejer is more of a sport bike in comparison. I too have a bad back and can not last on the FJR more than one hour, on the wing I can go all day. Why not go to bikeweek in Daytona and ride all of the factory demo's to your hearts content?

A huge consideration you should take into account is aftermarket screens. With the stock screen, many riders complained about buffeting. Me included. The aftermarket screen made all the difference for just over $100. With all that is available, you absolutely can do away with the buffeting with the FJR if the stock setup doesn't work for you.

daddysbike,

I came off a GL1200 for the FJR. I know, not a real comparison, just a wing. BUT, I live in Alabama, just south of I-20, bout 20 mile or so over the line from Georgia. If you've ever rode Cheaha, you came through my back yard.

I have an '05, totally stock as far as seat and screen. Intend on replacing the screen, waiting on funding from the wife. :eh:

Anyway, we can probably hook up and get you in the saddle.
