I have just ordered a new radar detector (Whister XTR695) and will be mounting it to the bike when it arrives. The most likely location will be the brake fluid reservoir with hard wired power and an audio cord to the Starcom1 under the seat. I plan to use it in the car and on the bike, but mostly the bike and I want it to be dry and secure. My dad used a home made lexan case and some saran wrap to protect his escort. I have seen the boxes that are sold, but $65 is way too much for a plastic box and the $25 ones aren't available for the model I bought. Just wondering what you mad scientists have come up with and if you have pictures. For this application I am probably more interested in form over function, but cash is definitely king.

A lot depends on your mount and the RD location. Baggies and zip-lock bags work pretty well in most situations.

Ziplock with a rubber band over the radar detector, the GPS is waterproof. FRS is under the seat, so it's protected as is the Starcom.

Most of the gear is in a SW Moto tank bag with rain cover. The GPS is waterproofish. The radar is the weak link, frankly, I pull it off and put it in the tank bag until the weather subsides. I have an N/line box, but it does not keep out the water leaks.

For the connections, however, where water is likely to seep into and potentially cause harm, I went to home depot in the plumbing dept and picked up some silicon tape. It looks like electrical tape but resembles peel and eat fruit strips: incredibly elastic, sticks together, and forms a great moisture and heat barrier too. I've wrapped all my electrical wire connectors with it, including where I positapped. Removal is simple: just cut through it and replace.

That's what I have. A little bit of a pain to get it over the GPS without pulling out the ear bud wire, and sometimes shifted and blurred the image. On the XM radio it worked well. But I will use the again this year, though I bought a waterproof box for the GPS to try but I have to drill and waterproof holes for the wires.
