Anyone else out there had the gall bladder removed (laproscopically(spelling)) It will be 3 weeks this Tues and all I get from the doc about recovery time is "MY BODY WILL TELL ME" about lifting, riding bikes. Thought I may ride in 3 weeks but no heavy lifting for 4 weeks or so.

I had it done years ago and was back to work in less than a week. If you have full range of motion without pain, go for it.

I had mine out (same procedure) the summer before last. No issues and I think I was riding around a week and a half later; perhaps a little longer but certainly not as much as three weeks. I think I only missed three work days. I avoided much lifting for maybe 3 weeks. The laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive but everyone reacts differently. I was in pretty good condition before the surgery and post-operative pain only lasted a few days.

Thanks guys, I tend to overdue things physically at times, got 50lb sacks of grain and 100lb haybales along with 40lb water buckets to start managing again, do not need any setbacks to good weather enjoyment.

I would lay off the really heavy lifting for four weeks or possibly longer. You would hate to tear something internally - could screw up your whole riding season. Doctors don't like to give much guidance on this stuff. They may say don't pick up anything heavier than 10 lb. for 3 or 4 weeks but will never tell you when you can load a dozen 100 lb. bales of hay onto a pickup truck. All I can suggest for stuff like that is to go at it carefully and stop if you get twinges of pain.

With respect to riding, normally there isn't much strain. If you are back on the bike early, resist the instinct to save a bike from tipping if it starts to go! (i.e. zero speed parking lot drop)
