I have exactly the same garage door opener mounted under the compartment lid on my 05. It's been working fine, but the lid is a little slow to open sometimes.

I added a pushbutton switch to the gdo that is mounted to the lid. Lets me activate the gdo without having to be in neutral and open the lid. I like rolling into the garage without having to stop.

Wiring to the 12v of the bike is a great idea and I thought about it. But that would mean removing those damn panels again. I could build a custom solar powered gdo with fuel cell backup in less time!

I velcroed my GDO to the underside of the the storage compartment. Read that somewhere on here. Works great.
