Hope to make this short. I've got my opener velcroed to the lid of my glove box. Want to wire it to a "momentary" push button switch. I "assume" that when you push the Garage Door Opener button there is a mechanical connection made. I "assume" I can run a wire to both sides and then to my switch which I'll mount on the starboard side somewhere. Am I right or is there some more arcane connection made that wouldn't allow this simple wiring. BTW, I'm not wiring it to bike power.

Thanks.

Jim, I just did the same thing. I bought a momentary pushbutton switch at Radio Shack (RS part # 275-644) and I placed it on the right side. I used double sided tape and a zip tie to secure the opener underneath the dash panel and actually placed the button on the inside wall of the dash panel. I placed it there so that 1) it was out of sight and 2) since the button isn't water resistant, it would not be directly in the rain in case I get caught in it. If anyone wants pictures let me know and I'll post them tonight when I get home.

Someone (I think it was hondacbx6) mentioned that it was sometimes easier to put the new swtich inline with the battery and solder or otherwise force the normal switch in the closed position. Guess it depends upon the particular remote.

I avoided wiring altogether. Not sure about other brands, but I was able to buy a miniature remote for my Genie garage opener at Home Depot. I just velcroed it to the right inside panel. It's mostly out of sight and I can just reach down and press the button. Just remove when washing bike or riding in hard rain, although it doesn't seem to get wet there in the limited rain riding I've done(SoCal!!).

I installed a momentary switch from Radio Crap and ran the wire to the back of the bike under the pillion seat where I have the garage door opener held in place by the strap found there. Easy access when the 9v battery needs replacing (about once a year)
