I love my belt drive. It's so quite the wife doesn't hear me sneak out with the girlfriend! :yahoo:
So the girlfriend lives with you? Screw is the way to go.
Yeah she's a pretty blue color ( The fastest color ) and has a warm little spot in the garage. After long talks with the wife, she has been excepted and now the wifey will even join in sometimes. :p

Being a native Visalian, I can see this thread going straight to hell so I'll bow out. (for now)

On topic, I've had Genie screw drives at multiple houses and found them to be very reliable. I once tied both a one piece 16' and 9' door together on one Genie 1/2 hp opener (the garage door guy said it couldn't be done :D ), but it worked fine for 8 years.

Well I bought a Chamberlain belt drive from Lowe's this morning and got it installed. Yes its ALOT quieter and smoother than my old Craftsman chain drive. I was leaning towards the screw drive alittle before I started this post. And I do believe that it would have done the job fine I am happy with my decision. Thanks for all the good info.

Idrive (Direct Drive). About $75 more than the others, but no overhead tracks, belts, chains, etc. And VERY quiet. When mine dies, one of these is going in. My uncle has one, and it is freaking fantastic.
