Garage Door Security

Saw this on another forum. Took about five minutes to zip tie my releases shut. You don't use the release often anyway.

Thanks for posting this. I don't have windows in my doors which would make it a tad bit more difficult. That and my doberman (that I feed once a week) sleeps in there! JK, don't call PETA on me. (That is unless they'll send Pamela Anderson out to spank me)

After watching this video I went out to check on my garage door. First, I too don't have any windows which would make it much harder to grab the release if you can't see it. Also, because my door is 8 feet tall instead of the average 7 ft, the release is further away. What makes me feel secure is how tight the top of the door fits against the framing of my garage. I think it would severe your arm if it were to get caught in it. That little block of wood would not fit to work as a space to slide his coat hanger. The door fits really tight against the header beam pretty much eliminating any gap to put anything through.

I am glad for the heads up though. Its always good to be kept aware. Burglaries are rare here in the city of "Full Auto" ownership.

Same here - 8 foot doors. Also, I had the alram company put sensors on the doors. IF you move them it goes off.

Just checked my door. It has windows, but getting a wire up through the top looks like it would be tedious. I also, always lock the door to the house.

Remember to also lock the door going from the garage into the house. Why make it easy for them?

I think I have found a solution to garage door security, actually this is what I thought this thread was all about.

Anyway, handy farkle for sure.

One thing the video doesn't show is that you can often just lever the door open with a plank shoved under the door.

While my door has no windows AND is 8 feet high, and even if it wasn't I've adjusted the system so that the arm on my door goes past the vertical - you can pull the release if you can, but the door isn't going to open because you have to physically pull back on the traveller. Doing this also eliminates the possibility of wedging the door open from the bottom.

Contacting the garage door is fine if you don't use the garage for parking - or are willing to go into the home to disarm the system before opening the garage door - but I do not recommend wireless alarms nor wireless key fobs to arm and disarm the system - THOSE are security risks.
