Well used, but, not perfect. There is a coating on the screen which seems to have deterioriated a bit. Can provide pics, if needed. Maps are out of date. Wow...I'm really making this sound good, huh?

The deterioration of the coating on the screen has not hampered performance. Recently took it on a 200 mile ride, raining the whole time, and no issues whatsoever.

$160 + shipping.

How does one go about using a used GPS like the 2730? I have one now and bought it new and thereby got an unlock code to go with it. How do you "unlock" one for use with hmapping program already on the computer.

If this one is readable and useable, I like the 2730, but have no desire to put much in it, maybe 40.00 shipped. That would however leave the GXM which have been very popular available to anyone who might want it but not the 2730. just a thought, no biggie.

As long as the registered owner releases the unit on Garmin, you can register it and update it. Getting a map update is no big deal. I have a 2820 I got on Ebay a couple years back, and I really like it still and have the gps, with iPhone via bluetooth, and XM on that unit all going to my helmet. Assuming you don't buy a stolen unit, you will easily transfer the ownership and be able to download updates and either lifetime maps or a single update. If you're really cheap, you can even join GPS underground.

FWIW, don't expect to own a 2730 for $40, especially with that XM Antenna that is worth $100 by itself and works with the Zumo 550. It is a very sought after unit on Ebay by people who still think it's the best GPS ever made. It looks like a brick, but no modern GPS shows the level of detail, or has the options for routing this one does. Again, don't overlook the XM antenna.

Thanks for the info TominCa. Yes, I am cheap, but not looking to rob anyone of a fair price. I really like my 2730 and ride with others with 550, 660, and 665. I did not know that these were being sought.

Now pm on that GPS underground thingie.

This is not an endorsement of getting pirated software, I own my subscriptions, but it is a good source when Garmin servers crap out or refuse serve up what I need. Be aware that doing these hacks, is very time consuming and takes a fair amount of knowledge of how your GPS works. If you kill it, it's your problem, not mine.

Go here and create a free account: https://gpsunderground.com/forum/

Then go to Garmin Maps: https://gpsundergroun...ms/garmin-maps/

And download the free unlocked Mapsource or IMG file ver. 2013.4 All you need is GMAPPROM.img or GMAPSUPP.IMG and copy that to your device Garmin folder, and you are done. https://gpsundergroun...-2013-40-a.html

The mirror site in post 2 is faster.

Thanks for the info but I don't want to kill my units since the only thing I'm confident about is putting in an address, so I thing I will stay away from the tinkering

Will this work for a StreetPilot 2610? I could sure use an up to date mapset.

I think the 2610 uses a different software that was last updated in 2008. This in the City Navigator North America GMAPPROM.IMG or GMAPSUPP.IMG. If that is not in the Garmin directory of the existing unit, it may not be compatible. Remember to read and write to the Streetpilot series you need to use a power adapter in addition to a USB since there is no battery, and the USB is generation I (no power).

If I'm not mistaken the 2720 is like the 2730, but without the XM. An amazing model, we moved it back and forth from our van to the motorcycle. All weather, all the time.

Sure wish Garmin still made them!

Quite a few have asked about the screen. Here's a picture of it. It really isn't that bad and doesn't seem to affect performance.
