Garmin XM Antenna Mount for Gen III

I just installed a Techmount "StemMount" on my '13 FJR for my Garmin 660. Now, I want to mount the Garmin XM antenna. Any suggestions for mount type and location?

Back when Gen I's were the current model, a Forum member fabricated a bunch of cool items, including a mounting plate for the GXM-30 puck used by the Zumo 550. The mounting plate screws onto the top of the clutch reservoir with longer replacement screws, and the GXM-30 is mounted on the bracket with screws that go from the bottom of the mounting plate up into the bottom of the GXM-30. It is clean, and very secure.

That Forum member is no longer around, and I don't know of any equivalent mounting system for GXM-30s or the GXM-40's used with the Zumo 660.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking the top of the clutch reservoir would be the perfect location, but I couldn't think of a good way to mount it there. I'll keep looking.

The Garmin 660 doesn't come with XM!!!!!!!!!

I use my Tech mount, one side for GPS and the other for the xm puck? Garauld is still here if you want his great plates for mounting on the clutch/brake reservoir.

R you're right, I didn't notice the attachment detail on the earlier post! In my case I use velcro but of course no security.

I'm not familiar with the 660, but this is what I did for my 550.

It's just a thin piece of steel that I cut to shape, painted and bent. It sandwiches between the GPS and it's mount and the antenna is screwed to it for a little security. Nobody's ever messed with it.

Using something similar for my Sat Radio antenna. Many available with a Google search if you don't want to fabricate your own. One example.

FWIW, I've had my GXM30 attached to my front brake reservoir for a few years now with no problems. I just used some 3M DualLock - kinda like velcro but more betterer.

Another possibility is the RAM Mount plate thingy: RAM mount plate thingy <clicky>. I've used one of these on my Harley for a few years and it's worked fine and dandy, although since you, like me, are using the Techmount Stem Mount, I am unsure if there is enough room up there for that plate to clear the gauges.
