SOLD!!!

Enjoy the zumo Art!! ;)

Up for sale is my lightly used Garmin zumo 660 GPS. It includes all of the equipment that it originally came with, and will come to you in the original box, with all original paperwork. If you are reading this, then you probably already know what that all is. If not, click here. I'll also unregister the device from myself, and you can then register it in your own name at MyGarmin.com

It has the very latest maps on it. Plus I have purchased the numaps upgrade for it from Garmin, so that will be included in the sale. That is a $100 option. This means that you will get up to 4 map version upgrades per year (if they make that many) for the entire lifespan of the unit. The maps themselves may not be that important, but upgrading the waypoint information is to eliminate stale waypoints and add in new ones (gas station, hotels, etc.) is vital.

I have also fabricated a pretty spiffy little, completely custom, security locking system for this GPS, and that will be included in the sale as well. Lookie here:

This security mod does two things: First off it makes it take more than 2 seconds for some Neanderthal to yoink your expensive GPS when your back is turned for a minute in some parking lot. By adding a small vinyl coated steel wire cable (padlocked to the GPS and looped through something solid on the bike) it means they can't just loosen the RAM arm and walk with the whole kahuna either.

The secondary, but equally important, function of my bracket is it will prevent the spring loaded retainers from ever popping open when you hit a big pothole. The zumo 660 mount's weakness is that it is only spring loading that holds the GPS device into the cradle. If you put enough force on those springs they would surely pop. This custom bracketry will eliminate that possibility. I'll even include a pair of keyed alike, mini, vinyl coated master-lock padlocks (as seen above) in the package.

But wait, there's even more!

What good is a fancy multifunction GPS like this one without some tunes loaded onto it, right? So, I have a 16GB microSD card installed in the unit with over 2500 MP3's loaded on the card. It's all good music, IMO. We may not share tastes in music but hey! you never know. And you can always delete my old tunes and load on your own. Plenty of room for that on that size SD card. It's not even 3/4 full now.

The GPS also has the Northeast US 24k topo maps loaded on it, and I will leave them there if that appeals to you.

I have used the unit only sporadically for about a year, on my second bike (V-strom). It has never been dropped or otherwise mishandled. It does have some very tiny scratches on the face of the screen from normal finger touching. Nothing serious, but I don't want anyone thinking that it looks completely new. Here's a picture of the scratches:

See the scratches? Yeah, me neither. That's what I mean about very tiny.

I have come to realize that I will never go to bluetooth in the helmet, and so I don't think this unit is right for me. I'm going to go back to using my old workhorse Zumo 550 all of the time and swapping between bikes. The going street price for a new zumo 660 like this one is $650 (why isn't it $660? that would make more sense). I will let this GPS, with the $100 nuMaps upgrade, the 16GB SD card and these other cool extra goodies, go for just $525 plus actual shipping cost (it's a small box, so shouldn't be very much). Or... make me a reasonable offer?

Paypal is good for me (I'll give specific instructions).

Be aware that te lifetime maps feature does not transfe with the ownership. It will be detached from the device when you deregister it. I suggest you might want to give the new owner access to 'your' Garmin account and you organise a new one for yourself - if you have other devices, you might want to 'sell' those to 'Fred W2', as long as *they* don't have lifetime maps, in which case you might want to share the mygarmin acount..

Thanks Bram. I did not know that (I was actually just searching around on how to accomplish the nuMaps transfer).

What a racket. You can't transfer the nuMaps to another GPS and you can't transfer it with the same GPS to a new owner either?

I do have lifetime maps on my zumo 550 also, so I will just share access to my myGarmin account with the new owner. It doesn't seem to have any sensitive information in it anyway.

[edit] I searched the Garmin web site and see several places where they make it clear that you cannot move the nuMaps subscription between devices, but nothing that says it can't transfer with the unit to a new owner. I've sent a query to their Tech Support and see what their take on it is. In the meantime I'll keep it registered in myGarmin and share my account login with the new owner.

So it's the 550 that will get you to the 'Daks ride this weekend then?

I was hoping you were going to say you were getting the Escort Passport IQ so I could see and play with it in person.

It only sees fit that to help "unpopulate" the mass amount of farkles on the dash/handlebar a combo GPS and Radar Detector is most desirable.

As I mentioned in the OP (in a roundabout way), I've always run a zumo 550 on the FJR. It does everything that I need it to, and it does it all well.

The 660 was bought as a second GPS, for use on a second bike (V-strom), for when my son and his GF are riding along with us on vacations and such. Also to make it easier to just jump on the second bike and go, rather than switching the 550 back and forth. I bought it rather than a second 550 because I had heard such great things about the newer zumos, and I was toying with the idea of going with some A2DP capable stereo BT headsets in the helmets. I've come to the realization that I am not able to use any of the available bluetooth headsets with my preferred 33 dBA earplugs as they do not generate enough sound volume, so the main draw for the 660 doesn't work for me.

As for a combined GPS & Radar Detector, that would be OK only if the unit was waterproof. Since the Escort Passport IQ isn't, I wouldn't be interested.

I'm currently toying with the idea of relocating my old Escort Passport 8500 into the FJR glove compartment, where I won't have to worry about it getting stolen, seen by the Popo, or getting wet in bad weather. I just need to get the accessory power cable that has the remote mute button on it, and locate that somewhere handy. It would mean that its laser detection would no longer operate, but I'd be OK with that trade off. The X, K and Ka band radar should penetrate the thin plastic of the FJR faring just fine. As most RD owners will tell you, if the Laser alarm goes off, it's either a false alarm, or else it's telling you to pull over and accept your performance award. That will go a long way towards de-populating the dashboard clutter on the Feejer. ;)
