These are not exact figures but lets say gas was $3 last year. Assume $4.50 average this year. Say 5000 mile round trip at 40 mpg, some more or less. Thats 125 gallons of fuel at $4.50 equals $562 compared to $375. A $187 dollar difference. I know some who piss away more money than that weekly. Thats less than $5 per week if you planned this trip early. Stop eating so much or buying more stuff. Or slow down to legal speed and there is the difference easy. Its usually the pinch from work, kids, unforeseen happenings etc.

I'm glad this is an FJR rally and not a Chevy Truck rally. If that was the case, I might bale because of the price of gas. But the FJR is my cheapest transportation, so I see this trip as quite economical, considering. And the high gas prices aren't going to go away, so might as well lump it and enjoy the ride. ( I think I almost justified it to myself).

An offshoot to this topic would of course be not about folks cancelling out because of gas prices (which looks to be disproven), but the fact that other accommodations along the way are going to be easier to get, and I'll bet the traffic on the road is MUCH thinner. Good for US!!!!!!!!! :yahoo:

I'm burning all the dino juice I can while I can still afford it. NAFO, HERE WE COME!!!!! :yahoo:

Next year though....
ouch! that's not very generous of her
True but she's usually *very* generous (she bought me the FJR and she's taking me to Italy with her :) ) so I can't begrudge her this little annoynace.

considering this event doesn't happen every year. and its the inaugural one too! <_<
Wait - if this is the inaugural event, how do you already know it might not happen next year? :)

Because I said so. ;) NAFO is an every other year event. The regionals will take precedent next year. As a matter of fact, the hosting regional for NAFO, The Sequel will be...

Hang on, phone's ringing. Be right back.

because inaugural doesn't mean annual. and i do believe all of the regional rallymasters are probably in agreement that doing a NAFO every year is way too much. we're supposed to talk about it when we all get to Golden, so we'll see what comes out of that.

it takes more than a year to plan this kind of event and I'm sure the next one will be even bigger so that will take even more planning.

go to EOM this year and you'll get a good hint of how much fun these rallies can be!

When gas hit $4/gal. I was forced to come out of retirement and start touring part time with Chip'nDales to have the bucks for the meet.

It was either that, or muling Blood Diamonds out of Zimbabwe. :glare:
