My '05 has but 1450 miles and for two tank-fuls the gauge has only registered 1/2 full. Sure enough when I fill the tank it only takes 1/2 the amount it would if it were in fact dry. Anyone had similar problems? Is there an "easy" fix other than the dealer?

Thanks in advance,

David

There are some earlier posts about inaccurate fuel gauges. Seems there is a hinge type mechanism inside the tank that can come loose and cause the gauge to malfunction. I believe you need to remove your tank and take the fuel pump assembly out to get a good look at it.

You may also have had a fuel pump tank crushing. No joke. I had my fuel vent lines kink up, and the suction of the pump shrunk the tank. Remove the front tank mounting bolts, and lift the tank back. If the bottom of the tank is not 'linear' or 'rectangular', then this may have happened to you. You could also compare your tank to someone elses.

A tell-tale sign of fuel vent hoses clogging is opening your gas cap and hearing a sound of air being vented like a soda can. DO NOT put your face near the gas cap in order to listen. A few drops of gasoline may shoot out.

I'm told this should be covered under warranty, but I have not tried. It will cause your fuel guage to never read full. I am always short 2 bars, even when the tank is full to the brim.

If you find this problem, let me know. I'm going to go to my dealer eventually and get a new tank.
