It's all in the wrist. :D My last 1k weekend of relaxed riding I averaged 46 mpg, a bit less than usual, but not out of the ordinary for mostly 65 mph travel with the screen down. I may have exceeded that speed a tad in the deserts of Nevada. Maybe...:erm: It's not uncommon for me to see 250-270 before reserve and 300+ on the main tank or 500+ with the fuel cell. On the trip I mention I went 47 miles into reserve on one return leg and still only managed 6.0 gal. into the main, (the cell was dry).

A little under 40 mpg when running the ethanol mix....hate that "stuff". Mid-40's when running good gas and the windscreen is down.

Two weeks ago on a trip from Daytona to Two Wheels Only (TWO) in Georgia (along with the usual suspects like the Cherohala Skyway and Deal's Gap), I made, to my way of thinking, very good mileage. All told the trip was about 2000 miles. Lots of riding on secondary roads, and, except for 200 miles in FL, there were no interstates. Right before leaving I changed the air filter, spark plugs, and oil (synthetic, of course). TWO is about 500 miles and 8 hours from Daytona, so it was 1000 miles up and back at fairly high speeds, the rest spent on the twisties in n. GA, Tenn, and N.C.

For the entire trip I averaged 50 MPG. Back in June I did the same trip but only got about 45mpg. I think it was the new filters and plugs. Whatever, I was quite pleased with this trip's results.

Looking forward to EOM in Townsend in Sept.

Commuting, which is split about 50-50 between arterials and freeways, I average 40mpg; on the open road, 42-45 depending on average speeds.

I ran from Calgary to Saskatoon and back on the weekend. On the outbound leg, 740 km (462 mi), average consumption according to the on-board system was 4.9 litres/100km, or just over 48 MPG according to the conversion at www.1728.com/convmlge.htm

Had a quartering tailwind on the run out, very gusty, and my speed was around 100-110 km/h (60-65 mph).

On the trip back Sunday, into the wind, and pushing a bit harder, managed 5.4 litres/100 km (43.6 mpg).

Later on Sunday, winding through the foothills for fun (not driving aggressively) back at 5.0 litres/100 km (about 47 mpg).

Bike is a brand new '06 AE with 3000 (ish) km (1800 mi) on the clock.

Overall quite impressed with the gas mileage. Smooth and steady throttle application obviously helps.

YMMV (finally a place where that actually means what it says!).

Holy thread revival. Did you happen to noitice this threads 2.75 years old?

No, guess I didn't...
Damn... I oughta drink more coffee before I start poking around in here

Griff (embarassed)
Don't be; it was new to you (and pertinent today as it was when it was started) Actually might be nice to know what the new generation of bike gets; though I'd assume that the numbers haven't changed very much, if at all.
