I think a big factor would be whether the luggage is on or off - you know, wind resistance and all. My '05 with 5500 miles, luggage and a 50% highway commute gets 43mpg on regular gas.

I have Shane's Driver's Log program and have used it to log the last 4,138 miles on my 04 FJR. The bike used 83.4 gals for an average of 49.6 MPG. This includes city/highway use, 87 octane, 10% ethanol. I am not an overly aggressive rider.

Many variables affect gas mileage, especially your riding style.

I average 44 to 47 on my 2004. The best was 52, that was in Wyoming with NO traffic or traffic signals.

Thanks for all your input!

Casa Grande Boy, were rolling up to Roosevelt Lake hope to see you around. Thanks for the tip on the BB. Ever think of an Iron Butt ride?

I am going to try it next year during Laconia NH bike week. I have a friend that has an 04 BMW R1200S and he wants to give it a try. I cant let a Beemer show up an FJR now can I. :assasin:

I average 45 mpg for my daily 52 mile flat route commute.

I have seen as high as 48.5 mpg on a steady 75 highway run.

I have checked the mileage both with and without luggage and removing the luggage made no difference on mine.

Whatever the mileage, this bike is still a beast and I love it. :D

My '05 just turned over 15,000 miles on Friday's ride to work.

My 2003 got just under 50 on a two-up ride from San Francisco across the high desert by toward Wyoming. The last tank was not quite as good as the altitude took a toll. We kept the speed down though as my wife likes to ride at or near 70. :D

I only have 2000 miles on my 2005, but I get 43-44mpg tooling around the back roads and 49-50 on the highways. It always runs 2 bars until I stop for a stop sign or red light, then it goes to 3 bars until I get up to highway speed at which time it will drop back to 2 bars. That seems to hold true whether it's 85 or 105 degrees. At 105 it takes 4-5 miles to drop back to two bars. ( that is degrees, not mph)

The 60 MPH figure in the post was based on an imperial gallon which is 1.2 US gallons.

OK, last week trip from South Texas to South New Mexico fully load (ie saddle bags, Tank bag, Trunk, Tail bag and Camelback) I got 46 mpg doing 75mph from South Texas to El Paso. I get to El Paso, temp drops 15 - 20 degrees, 50 mpg doing 75mph going to Deming, NM. I use 87 octane in South Texas and 88 in El Paso.

Average MPG at home 42, average speed around 85mph. This is with tank bag and one saddle bag fully loaded with medical gear and rain gear. The other saddle and trunk are empty. No tail bag and smaller camelback.

Were you going down hill? Both ways? And a tail wind to boot? Damn.

If I can geth permission from a couple of my Drivers Log users, I will see about posting a report that has the averages.
Best Regards,

Shane
Shane, I have all 1500 of my FJR miles logged in Driver's Log. Let me know what you need and you are welcome to the info. I'd like to see the results too.

Rick,

Thanks for the offer. I will be in touch when after I get a few more features done that I have been promising people.

I have had several DL users requesting reports to compare their bike costs, fuel, etc. I plan on adding them before LONG!

Best regards,

Shane

P.S. Howdy from Chisos Moutain Lodge (BIG BEND)!

Best 49.99999 (etc. - guess that qualifies as 50 mpg) up in the Rocky Mountains. Mostly low 40's. I averaged 38 mpg out to WFO and back (around 3500 miles), but I was dragging a trailer over hill and dale at quite a brisk pace ;)

91 octane, eh? They just never learn, do they? In this case, more isn't better (mobetta)...

"....but this one goes to ELEVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!........................"

Use PETROSWILL myself and swear by it.

38 to 50 depending on how much fun I am having.

Generally prefer the fun area of the petrol meter controlled by the righthand rheostadt<SP?>
