I had 2 long trips on my bike planned for this summer. If gas goes to $4.00/gal, that will drop to 1 shorter, long trip.
Thing is, here the price has crept up and up, and it has just been anounced that it will go up again soon. But it deters no-one. The roads are more crowded than ever.

'They' want us to start using public transport. What would you rather do?

Stand in the rain waiting for a bus that is 20 minutes late, then sit next to an alcoholic mugger, and then get off half a mile away from where you want to be only to find that you now have chewing gum stuck to your ass.

Or

Go in the car or on the bike?
You make it seem like the government transportation system isn't convenient or something. Muggers and gum, a little weather….that's nothing like dodging cages all day...

Of course I ride the bike where I can, but I do a photography show/booth nightly and need to use my car for hauling the stuff. Driving the way I usually do...say, spirited, I was getting an avg (mostly considered city) of just over 21mpg in the MINI.

3 days ago I filled up for $45, and decided to try conservation. By shifting at 2.5k and only using 20-25% throttle, my running avg is now up to 30.5 and slowly climbing, over the last 120 miles of this new tank!

The two things I found that make the biggest impact are of course the fast starts, and with a surprisingly huge impact - idling at lights.

The overseas MINI this year has a really nice feature that I REALLY wish we had here. When you stop at a light, the engine shuts off until you depress the clutch pedal again, after which it instantly restarts. That does make a huge difference if you catch a lot of lights which I sometimes do.

1. Before you start feeling too sorry for the drivers on the other side of the Big Pond, take the TAXES out of the prices and see who's paying more!

2. I think that the motoring public is expressing their defiance and anger in the only way they know how: "Damn the torpedos! FULL SPEED ahead!"

It is nice when the bike is an option…… but with a foot or so of snow still on the ground and more forecast tonight…….

With a 38 gallon tank on my diesel truck and those pumps that always kick off at $75 or $100 really make it suck as you dig out your debit card twice in one stop….

I don’t really look anymore…. I mean what are you going to do quit driving until the price drops……..>NOT< Just wish I had more stock in big oil companies……

as earlier stated..... WELCOME to the FUTURE!!!
