I have a 2007 FJR and the gas tank is getting scuffed where the crotch meets the tank. I've seen several decals, bras, etc. that are available, but want to be careful to select one that works well and looks good. Thinking a magnetic type might be best, but not sure. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks.

I had a vinyl sticker set made up that matches the blue and the silver on my bike - any sign shop can do it.

Magnetic ones can shift and, if there's dirt underneath you'll have worse scuffs than before.

I used these. I think they look OK and do not fall off like the static vinyl ones.

Tank Protector

Look like this:

A lot of people like the Tankslapper clear plastic film, discussed in this recent thread.

This thread reviews almost all of the available options, including the Bagster (a full fabric cover for the tank), Second Look (a half fabric tank cover), Geelong carbon fiber, MagKnight, etc.

The tankslapper worked great on my '07 FJR - except for the center crotch piece - I could not get it to fit - tried everything it just seemd to be made for another bike or something. YMMV - perhaps just a user error. :dntknw: :confusedsmiley: :stunned:

the stick on kind available at Cycle Gear has worked well for me.

+1 on the stick on tank protector from Cycle Gear. I don't remember the brand, but they look and stick good. FYI, The first one I got was clear and I did not like it cuz you could see every flaw and air bubbles. I peeled it off and put a carbon fiber one on there and it looks great. They are only like $9-$10. Some trimming of the bottom may be required since they are cut for sportbikes.

I don't have a close-up but here's a pic:

I cut a piece of a "smoke" color sun screen material that you would stick to a car window to keep the sun from beating on a child in a car seat. I guess its vinly cause it peels on/off real easy and the smoke color is a nice contrast to the Coblat Blue of the tank. It's nice cause you can cut it to any size/shape that fits your needs and when your not wearing someing that would otherwise scratch your tank you can just peel it off and put it in the glove box.

OH, and you can always just wear a nice soft pair of flannel boxers over your riding pants...avoids maring the tank and chicks dig it...

From what I read here it seems it also depends if you ride hugging the tank like a road racer or "loose." and what apparel you wear. I think someone on this forum posted how an unzipped jacket scratched the tank by flapping in the wind. Small scratches can be reduced/eliminated by Meguiar's products and others. This is a topic on this forum you can read and read for hours.....

Mine looks something like this. (i think subtly different, but same basic idea). I'd have to dig around for one actually on my bike....

The bottom part is clear, so that would match whatever color your bike is, then fade into black. I like it.
