So Geezers post about laying his bike got me wondering. After my last post about the center stand this shouldn't be as bad. He says he lay her down picked her up and had a good ride home. How long after a drop should you wait to start the engine? I know they don't run well when the fluids are not in the right place.

What fluids won't be in the right place? IF there are fluids that aren't in the right place, running the motor will get the fluids where they need to be (unless you lost fluids during the spill). The oil that goes to various parts of the engine is in the galleys to get it there. Might run out of the galleys and back to the oil pan or somewhere else. It won't hurt if the bike runs a few seconds without oil in all the right places...happens every time you cold start the bike.

I would worry about too much oil being caught up in the top of the head and not enough in the crankcase with some engines, but I've had the valve cover off of my FJR and the oil flows down past the cam chain and there is no restriction. A few seconds would be plenty of time for things to return to normal.

And it wasn't me, it was FJRCHIK, er I mean Geezer2.

When I dropped the bike it lost some coolant but not much. I checked it before starting and there was no problem.

About as long as it takes to figgure out that you have to turn it off and back on to reset it. Or so I have heard.

"About as long as it takes to figgure out that you have to turn it off and back on to reset it. Or so I have heard." ... juniorfjr

Which brings up a very good point. Is there, in fact a "tip over" sensor on the Feejer? I know some bikes have one, but an not familiar with this on the FJR and haven't received my service manual yet.

Inquiring minds want to know... Thanks!

Don

Hey Rob, please title your threads so that the title gives a clue as to what it's about. "geezers got me wondering" doesn't let anybody know what the thread is about. I changed this one for you.

No need to wait to start the FJR after it's been on it's side other than the few moments its going to take you anyways.

Yes, FJR has a lean angle cut-off switch.

Holy Lickety-split photochop, Batman!

I will say that a fall-down-go-boom will not always produce a Code 30 on the display. Mine didn't, anyways.

-30- (coincidental obscure reference intended)

the real answer to your question is........9.62845 seconds*

*- based on scientific evidence

i know because i did the research while drinking a lot of beer and i stayed at a holiday inn express last night :p

Already had that that ditty Photochopped, loaded and poised to go for a slow Friday. It was to come with a story about a ride with FJReady, buffalos and pillion angels in the mud (at least we hope it was mud...), like snow angels only black and gooey.

And, 62.887693% of statistics are made up on the spot.

Yup....as a matter of fact I did have to turn off the key in order to get her to start. Wouldn't start till I did that. Mmmmmm....any chance this thread will get me to fjr pilot. :)
