What is the best stuff to block the heat under the gas tank? I rode Saturday and was shocked to find how HOT! the gas tank gets, I know the fuel pump is cooled by the gas,so I know im not doing it any favers.

One of the first things I did was add the Speedzone Hot Tank Fix material. Looks like reflective bubble wrap, but it has been durable so far for me. The tank still gets hot if you are not moving and fuel levels are low, but this does improve things quite a bit.

The BEST way? Get a new header or have someone remove the cats out of yours. Night and day difference :)

Just for clarification - the fuel pump is not 'cooled' by the fuel, it is lubricated by the fuel. It's a stout part that rarely if ever goes bad.

Thank for the replys, there is insolation stuck to the underside of the tank.I should have known that thin stuff would not be enough. The blanket looks like a great idea.

Furthermore...

The sppedzoneahead stuff used to be some sort of organic jute materiel with one side covered in foil. More recently they have switched to a bubblewrap with mylar foil on both sides. I have a copy of the latter and it does seem to help some.

I also have a bagster tank cover which insulates my legs from the hot tank, which is a big part of what most folks are attempting to accomplish. And if it is fuel geysers that you are trying to avoid I documented a fuel cap castration procedure that has worked flawlessly for the past 40k miles.
