WTB, trailer hitch for 2004 FJR. Must be in good shape.

Also, if someone has a hitch installed (Gen 1), I would appreciate forwarding some installed pictures (mounting points, etc) as I may make my own....

Please e-mail me direct @ [email protected] . Thanks and safe riding, Scott

I've got some better pictures somewhere. I took some specifically of the hitch and the mounting points.

There are only four mounting points on the hitch. The two forward mounts are at the rear footpeg mounts. (You have the footpeg bracket, then the welded bracket on the frame, and the hitch mount fit inboard of that bracket.) The two vertical supports actually went through the plastic fenderwell and mounted to two horizontally opposed bolts that are found under your rear seat and near the tail lamp assembly.

Again, I'll see if I can find my pictures. Fabrication would not be that difficult. I had purchased mine only because I got extremely lucky and found a used one on ebay for $29. It was a bushtec hitch. The bushtec hitches actually come with a pin-mount instead of a ball mount. This was easily removed and replaced with a ball.

Thanks David,

Is the bar that would be adjacent to the right side muffler supposed to be fairly stgraight and just got bent in the wreck? Or is it bent to get around the bags(when installed).. I gather some grinding away of the upper plastic needs to make way for the downward supports too? Or do those slide inbetween without cutting/trimming?

Thanks much for the information, Scott

The hitch took no damage in the crash. It looks as it should. As you can probably see, the hitch itself is round stock. Its location does not interfere with the bags. On the forward end of the round stock, it was angle-cut and a peice of flat-stock was welded on for bolting onto the bike. For the vertical supports, two half-moon brackets were welded on to the hitch, then the verticals were bolted on both ends. The plastic fenderwell was cut with a dremel to allow acces for the verticals to go through. The ball plate was plate steel cut to shape and welded on, probably 3/8" thick.

When changing the rear tire, I removed the two lower bolts from the vertical supports, then rotated the hitch upward. It was no big deal at all. I could still have the rear tire removed from the bike in about 10 minutes.

You can actually see in these pictures, two horizontal black lines on the right vertical support. These were cable-ties holding the wiring harness. The harness was located inboard of that bracket. The lights on my trailer were standard, single lens, regular ole trailer lights. Therefore, I had to acquire a tail light/brake light/blinker light adapter. Wally World has those for about $20.

In case I do not locate my pictures, it might be a good idea to post a "request for pictures" in "part and accessories." I am sure we have members with Gen I's with hitches already mounted.
