I never put anything under my center stand either and have had that darn tire off lots, with 7 flats in the last two seasons. My differences may be: I usually don't have the bags on, I remove both the forward and aft bolts from the brake stay to get it completely out of the way, I remove the sensor from the ABS disc (it will corrode in there if you don't keep up on it and become almost impossible to remove) so I can get that completely out of the way, and I do bend the bottom of the fender slightly, but not much.
I'm with Phil here except I just loosen the lower brake stay bolt. Once the drive splines are disengaged there is plenty of room to tilt the tire (bottom-left/top-right) and slide it out between the pipe and fender.

My rear suspension was lowered 1", so adding something under the center stand definitely helps.

So, yer one of them "low riders", huh. You got spinners, too?

:D

I did this today. It really wasn't that hard at all.

Putting something under the rear tire makes it a lot easier to get it on/off. It's nice that even after the axle comes off, the rear wheel is still attached to the final drive and stays there. This makes it relatively easy (i.e., less strength required) to re-install because the tire stays in place while you attach the ABS hub and brake back. I took note of the location of the "anti-rotation nub" on the brake bracket plus the part of the ABS hub that goes on top of it before installing. This made alignment a little easier knowing what needed to go where ahead of time.

I'll do this procedure another time: https://www.fjrtech.net/getdbitem.cfm?item=36

... especially since rear wheel removal isn't that hard.

One more thing, there's a tiny (probably 5mm bolt and bracket) that holds the brake line and one more wire onto the swingarm. I removed this to allow me to move the brake line up so I can get to that allen bolt/nut that holds the brake arm onto the swingarm.

Thanks again,

Dennis

I went from a Gen I to a Gen II and tire removal was the same except for the ABS which is extremely simple to remove. I used to use a 1 x 4 under my centerstand to help with the removal, but discovered it's not that much more difficult to pull the rear wheel out without it. Don't use it anymore.

I discovered the same -- seems that you can bend that fender quite a bit. I pushed my wheel to the right when removing it from the final drive and bent the fender a little -- and the wheel had plenty of room to get out.
