It would sure be interesting to compare the ECU connector pin locations between a Gen II and Gen III. The original Gen I Euro FJRs had a CO feature that the USA FJRs did not. Some adventuring was done and it was discovered that there was a ONE pin difference between the two ECU connectors. Brave and intrepid explorations by Tom Barber (aka Barbarian) and Dwayne Verhey (aka Torch) discovered that moving one wire enabled the CO function. Could it be true with the Gen III too? Move or jump a pin and get an Easter egg diAG function?

Don't know about that. This is what very little I do know: Starting with the '13 FJR it now has a diagnostics port that can be connected to a reader and computer. According to the tech I was speaking to, Yamaha has been the last of the major Metrics to adopt this type of OBD set up and they incorporated it into three '13 models. The FJR, the Bolt, and I can't remember the third.

I have no idea what info you can get from using it or what tuning you can do with it. That will befor Fart Smellers to figure out!

Still...... interesting. Oh, the possibilities!

Well The egg head known as scooter here has access.. I'd say he pull his dik outa his ass and get to fingering it out.

I mean, I do believe the sissy has a "connection" now ... Mess up factory stuff u big pussy!

Oh ya, I forgot there is an OBD port. That means that it is highly likely that we can use a laptop and any OBD II software like AutoXray or AutoTap to view the 4k+ codes. AutoTap is a code reader; some professional software packages like AutoXray will let you write new values. I used to have AutoXray OBD I to 'tune up' my car's engine and transmission. The ECM had to come out and be powered with an external 12 volt supply, then after that fuel, spark, torque converter and transmission were all open for fiddling. Which comes first, AutoXray or a '13 to spearment on ;) I think the gate has been opened.

You'll find that you will most likely have to buy a Yamaha Diagnostic Tool at a cost of $ xxxxx.00, if there is such a thing or if Yamaha is willing to sell it.

Most likely a propriety OBD

Gen III diagnostics are displayed on the multifunction display by a process in the service manual in several places. Look in section 8, e.g. under the Fuel Injections system and some other topics:

With bike "Off", hold down the TCS and Reset buttons. Continuing to hold them both down, turn the bike on. After about 8 seconds, the MFD will simply show "DIAG". Hold both buttons down again for about 2 seconds and a display will appear showing the code and the related code. Toggle the codes up and down with the TCS and Reset buttons, as desired.

Codes and possible actions are described on the tables in section 9. and elsewhere in the manual.

We need Wine Guy to bring his '13 to the next Owosso Tech Day and let us experiment. I'm tired of working on that POS Gen I of BikerGeek's anyways.
