Is this a worthwhile upgrade on an '08 with 55k and the original shock?

Also, that bike is a mess. I'm worried for the rider.

By all accounts it is a worthwhile replacement for your Gen 2 shock.

(The spring rate is higher and the valving is improved over your current shock.)

And yes, hopefully he was wearing ATTGAT...

One wonders how many miles on the donor bike before this shock became available. The best deals on used OEM shocks for replacements come from folks who decided to upgrade to a more high-end shock while their bike was low in mileage. I'd suggest caution.
