I want to put a 65w 2m on the bike drawing directly from the battery and have heard the alternator is a bit weak, relatively, to the Gen II.

My question is about anyone's experience or issues with an amateur radio setup on the Gen I.

Thanks, Troy

Your transceiver likely pulls less than a couple of hundred ma when not actively transmitting and likely 8-10 amps while you are yacking, which is a very limited percentage of the time. No problems driving that load - even if it pulled twice as much, the battery would supply the current during the transmission and be recharged when in receive.

BTW: The charging system isn't weak. It can do what it was designed to do. It just doesn't bring a lot of excess to it like many LDRiders would like (750 watts should be a minimum).

Yes, perfect. I was curious if anyone had had any issues. 7 amps on TX for this one.

People use a car tire on the FJR so maybe a car battery....... :p

Well, ya know..... when they do police conversions of motorcycles they typically do add a second battery. Check out the utility boxes on the back of these bikes.

Wow, Thanks again Alan. Do you realize if we all bought you a beer for all the cool stuff you throw us, you could start your own lake ? IonBeam Reservoir....nice ring eh? And I'd actually pull over for those guys...intimidating....i mean not in a Ural 3-wheeled 50 caliber sort of way...but i'd definately slow up...
