Ok, so I've read extensively about the ticking issue and some about CCT issues but not sure my "noise" fits and would ask for opinions please.

No ticking/noise on start up, becomes more pronounced just after initial warm up but can't be heard in any RPM range after engine is hot. I get done with a ride and pull into the garage without any abnormally discernible noise.

Ah yes, 2003 with about 33k.

Thanks, Troy

The early bikes had some slop in the timing chain due to a less than stellar cam chain tensioner (CCT). It is highly recommended you upgrade to the newest version (with a blue dot) at the next valve check or sooner. While the engine is still not warmed up, try compression deceleration. If it sounds like marble in the right engine case that is you timing chain slapping around. There is a LOT written on the issue here, and many articles on how to change the CCT. You're definitely at the mileage where this needs to be looked at.

You are fretting too much. Don't listen for things that are not there. If it's a ticker, it's OBVIOUS. If it's a bad CCT, it's a marbles in a can sound on the right side usually just off idle.

Not sure I agree with all that. Not all early CCTs die early deaths. My first went 90k, my second was still good with 136k on it when that bike was totalled, and my third went 93k.

I don't see where I over-stated the case for the CCT. Your incredible miles notwithstanding, I had the rattles in the timing case during cold deceleration, st 22K miles on the 05, and it it completely disappeared with the new CCT. Given the description we had to work with on this, that seems like on of the items that "needs to be looked at". The CCT can last a long time if the noise doesn't bother you, and if all you do is ride long distances on open roads, you'll rarely hear it.
