Stator is acting up on my 03' and when I went to order one with my local dealer, they were told 11/20/10 from Yamaha. OMG!!

Anyone know of one out there? I don't want to install the Electro Sport if I don't have too. But I would like to take some fall rides this year. Unbelievable.

Thanks,

Tanker.

You may have a tough time with this one. It may be time to check the great Satan eBay and check with motorcycle salvage yards. Yamaha told me that the FJR is too new to be having stator failures so this item does not show on any dealer's parts plan to have in stock. I was told that the part had to be shipped from Japan.

Another alternative is to find a winding company and have your stator core rewound.

And finally, why do you think it is your stator?

Hey Ion,

Tough time for sure. I've been checking e-bay daily and nothing but covers/gaskets here in the states so far. There was a used 07' in Great Britain but without a bunch of changes to my 03' I don't think I could use it. Not sure I want a salvage stator at this point in the game.

Thanks for the link on the rewinding, I'll explore that more.

I have load tested the battery which was new this past March and all is good. I had replaced the R/R about 1.5 months ago as I was seeing fluctuating DC voltage on my battery monitor and my Valentine was going on and off constantly. I hooked up the DVM and was seeing anywhere from 9.5v-14.2v at idle. I assummed it was the R/R.

Everything seemed O.K. for about 200 miles and I stopped for gas. When I fired the bike back up is was fluctuating like crazy once again.

The problem is intermittent and heat related as it always seems to occur after a full warm-up. So, I should have looked at the stator right away. When measured phase to phase with any of the white wires at idle I'm only seeing about 40vAC across two wires and I have a combination showing about 34vAC. Not up to par from what I understand. I believe I should be seeing closer to 50vAC at idle and a bit more at 4k rpm's.

Gonna have to keep looking I guess.

Hmm, it is sounding like you may have a quite rare stock stator failure. 40VAC at idle is fine. At 5k rpm you should be seeing ~60 VAC. What is of most importance is that the readings are within a 2-3 volts any phase to any phase (any white wire to white wire). If you have one phase that is 6 volts lower than the other two phases at idle is a damning thing. Just to verify, you did your check with the stator connector unplugged from the R/R and tested it by going directly to the pins on the connector?

Any rewinding service, regardless if they can wind a Yamaha stator should be able to test your stator and tell you for sure if it is good or not.

Sorry man, BTDT, twice, fuckyou very much ElectroSport.

Supply and demand. :) Wow, sounds like a great time to sell my stock stator with only 6k miles on it. I've been holding on to it because I've heard and read many bad experiences with the Electro Sport stator I have installed. I have 24K on the Electro Sport and I run Aux Lights, heated gear without any problems. I also run a Datel.

Bottom line is I might be willing to sell it (have been keeping it around for LD guys in case they needed one shipped one day air on a IBR rally).

That's just it, I have (1) phase lower by 6 volts than the other (2) so I'm assumming its starting to go on me. Yes, stator connector unplugged from the R/R and checking pin-to-pin.

Hi Dave,

I would love to purchase your stator if your willing to part with it. I've had this bike since July 02' (#115) and its been flawless to date. I have not been on it for (2) weeks and it looks like I may not get a chance to get on it again until next Spring unless something like your offer comes through. I hate to miss those beautiful fall rides.

What do you want for it delivered to MN. 55304?

Thanks a bunch for the offer.

Sorry for ya Tanker. Sounds like its time to find out what Duster19 likes to drink... and, what it would take to bribe him.

I had an Electrosport in my 05 and it failed miserably on me during the 07 Iron Butt Rally. I then replaced it with a 2007 rotor and stator and regulator/rectifier, which stayed in the bike until it met an early demise due to an unscheduled encounter with a deer during the 09 Iron Butt Rally. I have the stock 2005 rotor and stator and regulator/rectifier sitting in a box ready to go to a new home. Stator lists for $312.06 on bikebandit for OEM make me a reasonable offer on it if you want it. If we can come to an agreeable price I will pop it in the mail Monday morning. You an reach me via [email protected] also.

I've had one for sale for 3 months now, no takers. It's in the classifieds, did you even try to do a (Iggy, take note) SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!! Hmmmm, did you? I thought not. In any case, stocker, perfect, wires cut at about 10 inches for replacement with a Esport, so it can be installed without major surgery, $50 plus shipping. Oh, and I live in Lakeville, and can install it if you're askeered, for a nominal fee.

Thanks for all the PM's guys!! Love this forum.

I think I got back to everyone, so far.

I was hoping to get one uncut. I realize beggers cannot always be choosers, so I will pull the trigger very soon with someone based on all this feedback.

Radman is close by, so that looks to be my best option presently, if I go with a cut stator.

I'll let everyone know my outcome soon.

Later,

Thanks for all the offers everyone!

I'm going to go with Dusters' stator as it appears to have the least amount of miles on it.

I appreciate everyone for all their efforts to get me back on the road, and I will be soon. :)
