What did Yamaha do to reduce the heat in the Gen II's? Is it redirected? Better air flow? Insulation? Or did they just reduce the speed/performance of the Gen II's so they don't put out as much heat? :unsure:

 
Covered in the FJR Model Comparison Matrix with a green line about what was new with the 2006 model as advertised from Yamaha and discussed many times before searching for terms like heat management, jiffy pop, vents, etc. including this interesting initial analysis of an '06. Side vents, radiator design changes, jiffand vents in the upper fairing essentially.

I would love to find a way to redirect some air to my *** area. (Tubing, duck work, air deflectors) All the heat mods were done on the bike when I got it. The only REAL problem is my *** is so hot after 30 minutes (In hot weather) all I want to do is stop and get off the bike. This was a great feature month ago, but with temps in the 90's it's not good.

when cold, just raise the tank (5 minutes) and remove the insulation blanket(s) and your cold is warmed up instantly when riding

when warms up, replace blanket

not much harder to accomplish than the ineffective Gen II's whore door vents on the sides, but much more effective IMHO

(huummm, quick removal wing top bolts holding down the tank...I already have the hinge bolt locknuted so the tank can freely move at the rear hinge end)

I had one of these on my VTX and it was awesome. No monkey butt... nice cool breeze under my butt, plus you get a nice little butt rub by rolling your *** forward and back on the seat. Havent gotten one yet for the FJR as I havent felt the need but my longest day on the feej so far has been about 300 miles.

+1 on the Bead Rider. Picked up a new-to-me FJR and rode it 2700 miles in 2 1/2 days. No heat issues with the Bead Rider.

Hardly squirmed the whole time.

Have since tested the OEM seat without Beads and noticed the heat.

So they definitely have something. Less money than any other fix to boot.

 
Bead Rider it is! :yahoo: Canucklehead was kind enough to give up his because he doesn't use it since he got a Corbin. :clapping: I'm still looking for a Corbin "Close".

 
Yammie made the Gen II's faster... I know because I passed a lot of Gen I's during NAFO in 2008. ;)

Soooooo....that begs the question:

"Do Gen I riders wave at Gen II owners who are lost and going the wrong way?"

to really bring air into the cockpit checkout Baker air wings. i recently picked up a pair and they make a big difference.

I HAD a set on mine, and they did seem to help push some air into the cockpit. I put them on because the barn door windscreen I got to keep the pillion happy really didn't have enough airflow for me, even fully down.

At highway speeds I noticed that the wings tended to not stay oriented the way I wanted for airflow. That was a bit of a pain. Otherwise pretty good. Simple installation, and they seem well constructed.

They came off for two reasons: I had a tipover that broke one of them, and then added a set of mirror-mounted aux light brackets and the wings interfered. Now I just change out the windscreen to either a stock screen with a laminar lip, or a Givi D436ST when I'm solo, and live with the lack of airflow for the times when I'm 2-up.

I can see if I can find the one that WASN'T smashed up and stuff that in the package with the Bead Rider to test... mine are for a Gen2 bike, dunno if that matters. You'll only have the extra air on the left side but at least you'll be able to see if they do what you want them to do before dropping the coin on a new (complete, and not smashed up) set.
