Many GenIII owners have sold their GenII's themselves rather than trading them in. I'm in the process of doing just that, and would be grateful to know how much you got for your old bike, how many miles were on it, any 'real super' farkles, and its general condition.

I'd like to price my bike fairly, and am looking for some guidance It is a 2008 with 102,000 miles, electronic cruise control, fuel tank is plumbed for aux tank (aux tank NOT included), wired for aux lights (lights NOT included), new windscreen and seats (from the 2013). There are a few minor scratches, no dents.

Thanks for your help.

The plumbing and wiring without the actual farkles are basically worthless imho. In fact a hole in the fuel tank will be a big negative to most. 102,000 miles is going to make it a hard sell. Folks just don't want to buy a bike with that many miles. I am assuming you have an excellent and documented maintenance history? How are the tires? What is the deal with the suspension? Last valve check?

So basically you are trying to sell a high mile FJR with minimal farkles that based on your limited description is in 'Very Good' shape.

As a guess, you are looking at getting $3500 - $5500. I doubt you will get the upper end of that, but its worth a try.

Don't know how much this helps, but I bought my '08 last year for $8,600. It was completely stock and had 7,500 miles on it....basically a new bike.

For what it's worth, if you're selling now, it's a bit early to get the best price. About 6 weeks from now would be better... however, it can, of course be sold. Second, as you know, you've got a lot of miles. We know that this is only medium miles for a well cared for FJR, but the buying public typically doesn't know this. How much maintenance you've done, as well as having meticulous records are worth a lot here. Even so, yer rolling the dice. Hope you're not hoping to buy new FIRST and then attempt to sell. If ya wait, at least you can change your mind and trade if it doesn't sell. Have you been given a price for a trade yet? They might surprise you. At least the dealer doesn't care much about your maintenance (which can help if ya can't find yer records). Their price is primarily based on mileage, year, and appearance.

If it were me, I'd consider 4k (maybe a little more if you'd been through the suspension), depending on the condition and your records, but I'd rather pay a few more K more and get low mileage. But that's just me. All ya need is ONE guy that wants it. I hope you find him. A few warm days would sure help your cause.

Good luck. We're pullin' for you.

Hmmm to add to the fellas before me, I bought me FeeJay with 12K on the clock for 8K, this in the summer, so high season and since we had in WA for a change a SoCal like summer the demand was high....

When I was me lookin' for a FeeJay I walked away from every bike, which had more than 30K on the clock... I would want to agree with SkooterG, meaning either you sell it as a IBA bike or else take a hit, because a biker like me, who doesn't plan to go for a coast to coast race or saddle sore, won't be impressed by an Aux Tank prep.

Good luck and yes, wait until the spring is there, than yo will build demand.

Just sold my very lightly farkled '06. 26K miles, battery pig tail, Aerostich "ear cannon" horn, factory heated grips, right angle tire valves, otherwise stock. Tires had about 2,000 miles on 'em, Metz Z8's. EFI and valve service had been done last year and all fluids, including fork oil, kept current. Slight damage (touched up, not noticeable) to adjustable part of left fairing and left mirror from a drop, not a crash. Bike started, ran and looked perfect and still had OEM battery.

Paid $11K in spring of 2006, got $7,000 for it. Buyer and I both walked away pleased with deal.

First see what a Dealer will give you for it. It will be the lowest number you will get. Several Dealers if there are any.

Kbb and Nada.com average $6500. But that doesn't take the mileage into consideration.

And you have to ask yourself do I want a quick sale or?

If your getting another bike trade it for what they give, and save yourself the head ache of

trying to unload it.

Good Luck

Most bike shops want a machine with 20K or less on the bike.........you do have cruise but the high miles and the IBA mods won't boost your resale at all...........if my Gen 1 had 100K on it I would be looking to get $3,500-$4,500 tops......

You wouldn't get it. Unless you found a dumb-*** sucker. Of course it depends on farkles, condition, and maintenance history, but once an older Gen I hits 100k I plan on keeping it until it dies because it's getting so close to worthless - at least to a potential buyer. To me, at that point, it's worth more than I can sell it for.

I would figure more in the $2,500-$3,000 range.

The dealer gave me 5 grand for my 03 with 35,000 miles on a trade, mostly stock, only Yamaha heated grips. I was happy with that as I really didn't want to go thru selling it outright, I've did that in the past and is a pain in the ***, placing adds, getting calls, waiting for them to show up,riding your bike, then working you on price. Some people will go thru that but not me, I don't think I could have did much better than my trade, and if I could I don't think the difference would have been worth my time.

Dealer gave me a $8,500 trade in on my 07 (43,500kms) towards the 2013 after I let him squirm for a month. With the reduction in taxes paid another $1,400 off,..I'm quite happy with the deal.

Used pricing significantly different here in Canada naturally.

Good advice so far. With an informed buyer a bike like this must be priced aggressively to sell at all. IMO, once an FJR gets much above 50 - 60K miles the value drops significantly, at 100K you're looking at 50% of book at best. Dealer trade in is meaningless, all the dealer does is mark up the new sale to recover trade in $$$.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

LDRider, or someone, I don't remember exactly who, recently sold his very high mileage '06 for a high number. Was it $10k? Again, trying to remember . Bike had 100*** miles on it.

However, he had a **** ton of farkles on it and it was set up for LD rides. Took him a long time, but he finally sold it to some guy from another country that wanted to use it for its built purpose.

All this to say that without the LD stuff included, your bikes gonna be very hard to sell.

Actually, a year or two ago, MrTwisty tried to sell his 2007 with 87k on it. It was priced well and he finally traded it in due to lack of interest. I wouldn't even buy a diesel truck with 100k on the clock, let alone a MC.

Whatever you decide I hope it works out for you.

Oops!

I forgot to mention that there is one full year of Yamaha Extended Warranty on the bike. Does this make it more salable? By a little or a lot?

Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful responses.

You put in a lot of miles on the '08. Just a thought... couldn't the '13 have a stablemate? That way, less miles on the '13.

I may be wrong but with 100k miles on it most dealers wont even talk trade with you let alone make an offer to buy.
