Anybody have a way to remove these short of cutting and welding? It was so easy on my FZ1..........

Just curious but why are you removing them? My guess is that you may get a VERY small amount more power at top end and you will pay for it in low-RPM behavior.

I may be wrong (that's why I'm asking).

There will not be a noticeable increase in power. Modern honeycomb catalysts do not cause enough backpressure to make a big difference. If you after an increase in power, then a 4 into 1 system would do the trick.

I am sure it would be soooo worth the effort...

I really don't see much of a difference between the cat location on my 14 and my old 06. On the 06 I did the cut, remove method. I tried going up through the pipes and saw that was not the way to go almost immediately. After completion and with new cans, PC V, and a bunch of other attempts at adding power, I didn't see any real change. Sounded nice though. If you want to spend money on performance, spend it on suspension. Don't think I was the person who figured that out first. Lots of people who have spent way too much money on performance farkles have come to that conclusion.

Good luck with your search for more power. Funny how anybody could feel like the FJR doesn't have enough. So let me ask, just how much IS ENOUGH?

More is always better, learning to be satisfied with what you have is even more better!

I would recommend removing the cat, the header and the airbox and replace them with a turbocharger. It can be placed in front of the engine or, if insulated enough where the airbox once was. If you limit the boost to about 7 premium should take care of any detonation issues. To maximize any gain in power, send your final drive unit to the place that converts it to a Venture gears, raising the final ratio 10% This would give you a top speed of about 176 MPH.

Other than top speed, where do you actually need more power that simply maxing out the throttle, or dowshifting and maxing out the throttle won't do it? Have you ever pushed your FJR hard enough to hit the rev limiter?

Sorry, it sounds to me like you just want to increase your output of poisons for no really good reason.

edited for spelling

A nitrous oxide injection system should do the trick. Might pull 200 HP out of the engine..... for awhile.

I am not that old that I have forgotten the quest for more power.

That said, if it was power tuning I was looking for, I doubt I'd be starting with an FJR.

Just sayin'

Of course, that begs the question, just what are you expecting to gain? No, not "gain", accomplish. Why not try Dale Walker's full exhaust system, 4 into 2 or a Muzzy had a 4 into 1. That way you get the whole exhaust system at one pop. Not only that there are a zillion Gen I guys out there that will give you the pro's and con's of these systems.

+1 ^

Retain the stock (expensive) header complete with cats in case you ever want to go back, and get yourself a Dale Walker 4 into 2 header. It fits first and second gen FJRs so there should be no problem with it fitting on a 3rd gen. In addition to the cats being removed you'll also have larger diameter head pipes, which shifts the torque curve higher up in the rpm range. This results in an actual increase in horsepower (not just noise) at higher rpm, but at the cost of lost torque at lower rpm, even when using the quiet stock exhaust cans. There is no free lunch.

I ran this setup for a while and then decided that I preferred the low rpm torque of the stock header for around town and normal riding over the increased high rpm power. YMMV

Well, thanks for nothing. It doesn't matter why, what's so hard about just answering my question as stated?

You threw it out there and you got some honest opinions, accept them or reject them. Once you post something it is out of your control and there is no chance of knowing where it will go. Sometimes a mod will delete an off topic comment or even shutdown a thread, but often a thread will become pretty odd. Just be happy that no one called you a name; just about everyone else on this forum has been called something akin to "peckerhead". The important thing now is what are you going to do. You can pout and leave the forum; if you do that then you and your post will be soon forgotten. Or, you can join in the fracas, give as good as you get and ultimately learn a great deal and make some good friends... including some who may have mocked your first question. Hope you decide to hang around.

Oh, and you'll find Ignacio particularly helpful... in cold and brutal sort of way.
