Would the rear shock for a 2016 1300A work on a 2010 1300A for a smoother better handling ride? I heard that some folks see an improvement when mounting a 2013 shock on gen2 bikes. Looks like in 2016 Yamaha stopped using their in-house shocks so maybe the shocks used on the '16 1300A bikes are re-buildable? I'm trying to get better rear shock performance without spending the big bucks. The 2016 OEM shocks are less than $400 from suppliers like Partzilla.

Gen 3 shock is a great upgrade without spending big bucks. I swapped mine out 2 years ago and love it.

OK, installed a new gen3 rear shock for a 2017 bike on my '10 gen2 and went for a 150 mile ride with wife on board. The motorcycle tracked noticeably better in curves with no tendency to wonder. Wife appreciated the less choppy ride and said she could tell a definite improvement. I began to notice a too firm feel in the front forks that i hadn't noticed before which became more noticeable because of the better smoother ride coming from the rear of the bike. half way through the ride I turned the front fork damping adjustments out about 5 clicks and now front matches the rear for smoothness. I was taking sweeper curves that were marked 45 mph at 80 mph no problem.

Long and short I can say the mod was for sure worth the $355 from Partzilla.
