Most of you are probably familiar with Geocaching; an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value. Today, well over 800,000 geocaches are registered on various websites devoted to the pastime. Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica.[1] Wikipedia
I've done a little myself over the years, but have never really taken it seriously. This morning, while sitting on the can I thought, Hmm, what if the FJR community started Geocaching tours, or rides? How much fun might that be? Unfortunately, many of the treasures are hidden in hiking trails or off the proverbial beaten path. So why not set up a regional 'FJR' specific treasure sites in FJR friendly areas such as somewhere near the 'Largest Ball of Yarn', or near Niagra Falls, or near Dodger Stadium, your favorite restaurant, or the like. Some more difficult treasures could be in obscured areas such as off the highway in the middle of nowhere, or maybe behind a tree on some little 1 lane road out in the boondocs. The point is that we get the chance to ride, solo or in groups, search for treasure, and leave a note for the next suspecting rider, or just say "Hey". Who knows, maybe even plan a whole road trip around Geocaching.
Any takers.
