I found another thread and it didn't seem to help me much. I can't visualize what need to be done to get it off. What the heck is holding it in place??? I'm just doing the springs so I don't want to take the rod out if I don't have to

Thank!

I am not really sure what lockwasher you are talking about, but you can change the fork springs by taking the cap off, loosening the lock nut, and spinning the fork cap off. Then the spacer, washers, and springs can come out.

OK I got it, I guess I thought the black washer at the top of the spring was attached to the spring or the damper rod way down in there.

No special tools needed for me btw.

Now I'm wondering if the washer and spacer rod needs to go back in?

Thanks for the help

Washer is a yes. Spacer depends on if you've fitted progressive springs. These will be noticeably longer than OEM. Thus allowing for the space the spacer would have taken up. The washer stops damage to the cap from the end of the spring.
