Picked up my FJR Thursday, I had to work Thursday and Friday but did manage to get some short rides in. Got a handle on the " basics", and now the Weekend, beauitful, sun shine, good temps, perfect to ride.

So I'm off, up Illinois RT 78, which turns into Wisconsin RT78 at the border, which also turns it into a road without a two mile straight away beween the Illinois border and I 90, beautful rolling hill country, plus turns, turns, turns, sweepers, sweepers, sweepers, twisties, twistes, twisties, by the time I got to Black Earth I was worn out, The bike handled in all, mabey I didn't try hard enough(hey! new bike want to don't try to hard. to fast), but I never felt the bike get out of sorts, or that I might be over driving the suspension, the torque is so awesome. Rolling on out of a curve it even forgives being in to tall a gear.

After lunch in Black Earth, I rode on up to I90 for the ride home, boring slab ride for the most part, except south of Rockford with traffic very light a 7 series BMW whizzed by, I gave him some lead and stepped in behind(RABBIT). I'm focused on pacing the BMW, and we are rolling, after awhile I glance down at the speedo, 120 something. Whoa! Crap! I let him go, never felt like 120, no muss, no fuss, just cruise mode.

Not sure what the fine would be for doubling the speed limit would be , and I Don't want to know. What would my excuse have been: Gee officer I didn't realize I was going so fast, ya see 120 on this speedo is in the same o'clock position as 65 on the jeep. some one want to try that out, let me know of it works.

Little Keepers

Over heard remark: guy looks like he just stepped off an HD billboard. "Oh the blue one, can't be a Jap bike, must be Italian, one of them motor goosesy or something like that. That was a blow your coke out your nose statement.

Riders in the parking lot: two goldwing riders, two Hd riders, ask if they coukd look it over. of course I'm happy to show off my new ride. Suprise the goldwing guys turned into an infomercial. They took the HD riders tru the bike point by point, they did a better job that I could have. I ask if they where thinking of giving up the wings for an FJR, no but they had looked into it, the wings just did more of what they wanted a bike to do. Same for the HD riders great bike but they like theirs.

Naming Your Bike: never named a machine before, have used a few choice words on some, but never gave one a name. However this may be the first experience I have with bonding with a machine. I rolled up the garage door next morning, the morning sun shone on the front of the FJR, and it is totally covered with BUGS, I believe we killed half the bugs in Wisconsin, so unless someone else already has the name I'll call her Bugwacker.

Impressions of the FJR: From the time I first sat on a friends 03 FJR it just seemed to fit. When I picked up my 06, checked. it out sat on it, fired it up. everything just felt right. First impression of this :D is changing to this :yahoo:

Great report of your first ride. B)

I love to hear positive stories about the first ride :yahoo:

and the best is yet to come- I found that after about 500-600 miles the FJR really loosens up and becomes even better as far a performace :D

congrats on Bugwacker!!!

careful about giving your new fjr baby too much attention, your puppy might get jealous and leave its mark... :dribble:

+1, airboss, it just keeps getting better.

Airboss,

I’m originally from Illinois and I’m very familiar with the roads that you mentioned. Agreed, they would be great roads for the FJR! There is some awesome riding near Galena, IL and Dubuque, IA. If you take Rt52 North out of Dubuque there are some great roads along the west side of the river. You can even ride up a ways and there are a few places along there where you can cross the Mississippi River on a ferry for a few dollars and come back down through Wisconsin.

Glad you’re enjoying you FJR so much. Be careful, you will get blue in your blood and you won’t even care if it’s raining, you will still want to ride!! If you ever make it down to North Georgia look me up, some of the best riding in the world around here.

Thats the one thing the FJR comes without, any advice how to control the right wrist. :yahoo:

Some states are adopting stiff laws about 100+. Impound, wreckless driving. Oregon is one at the forefront ($1000 fine? I think  ). Just be careful where you let Bugwacker strech her legs. TJ
