I am going to Gettysburg this year for the bike week but will mostly be checking out the battlefield and other historic sites. Are there any fun roads to be ridden in the area. I've not been in the area since I was about 11 or 12. Thanks everyone.

You mean Harley week?

We generally avoid the area, even if it's not as bad as Bike Week in Florida.

Seriously, there are all sorts of beautiful roads and little towns, especially just to the west and north of Mercersburg. We'll do 4 State rides in a long morning, running up to G'burg, west to about Mercersburg and then south through MD into the Berkeley Springs area (nice roads) WV, east thru VA, and home again.

Open Google maps to the terrain view and look for the line of low mountains between Mercersburg PA and Berkeley Springs WV.

Or you can head north along the river, north of Harrisburg.

Lots of good ideas in ADVRider threads and on https://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/Pennsylvania_114.html

Antietam battlefield at Sharpsburg https://www.nps.gov/ancm/index.htm is within easy riding distance of Gettysburg. The Gettysburg visitor center https://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm is a must see, IMHO. There are some nice, uncrowded roads between Raystown Lake and Flintstone, MD (326 and 26 are two of my personal favorites). Six Mile Run Rd. between Broad Top City and Coaldale has a few miles of interesting twisties. Rt. 30 west of Chambersburg is a nice, scenic ride. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable ride.

I occasionally like to see a spectacle and we will probably watch the band "Great White" play but we have no desire to go on poker runs with a bunch of drunk v-twinners but going there on the 4th weekend, 150th anniversary, will be just as big a cluster as bike week but with big motorhomes etc. I am a big civil-war freak so going there is on my bucket list. Antietam will probably be a must too. Thanks for all of the info and keep it coming.

I'm not clear on the dates but live near that area so I'll check into it, but, they also have a WWII recreators weekend and I think it's later in the year. September maybe? Much nicer time of year to ride there. Not as humid, far less crowded. There are plenty of nice scenic rides in that area. If I can help in any way PM me.

You may want to take a look at Michaux and Caledonia State Parks. It's just west of the Gettysburg.

PenMar also has a nice lookout where hang gliders jump off of.
