A cursory search turned up empty. So my new to me '04 has a Givi topcase. I never thought to try to remove the seat while the owner was present rather was in a hurry to make the return to Upstate NY from Rhode Island. It appears that the Givi rack extends over the seat not allowing it to release from the latch. Is there a trick to removing the seat with the Givi topcase rack installed?

The Givi rack on my 03 doesn't interfere at all with the seat, and since that should be the same on the 04, I'm having a hard time picturing what the problem is. I'm suspecting it's an installation problem. Is it an actual Givi rack or a homemade one? Would you mind posting a pic so we can see what the problem is?

Yeah, same here. Absolutely no interference, can't imagine how any kind of properly installed rack could interfere with the seat.

But the seat lifts at the front, and slides forward to be removed. That's not an issue.

On an '04, the rider seat comes off first, then the front of the passenger seat lifts up and you pull it forward. On an '06 and later, the passenger seat comes off first, but it still lifts at the fronts and goes forward.

So you're asking about interference, but you've never even removed the seat to check it?!!?? If you'd ever lifted the seat you'd know it works just fine.

Looking again, maybe that's a one-piece aftermarket seat. I still don't see interference, because think: the rack was on the bike before the seat was. . . . . Its bolts are under the seat!

Sounds like operator error to me. Thanks I'll try to take it off correctly at lunch today.

Appears the bike has the accessory Yamaha (made by Corbin) one-piece seat.

I have seen/read where people have modified the rack cross brace so it doesn't interfere with this type of seat.

Maybe call the previous owner and inquire what his trick was to remove the seat?

I think we have a winner. That does look like the Corbin. If that's the case, I'm no help because I've never played with one.

My solution would be to get a different saddle.

MW58, you may need another person to help, but try this to remove the seat: Using the key to unlock the seat, lift up at the front of the seat and as you raise that end up try to bring the seat forward(may have to keep the key turned in the lock so the latch stays open?) Worth a shot.

I had that exact same configuration (givi rear rack and Corbin Canyon seat) and there is some interference at the rear end, but it can be done. Here's how:

With your right hand grab the rear edge of the seat and pull upwards while simultaneously turning the key release with your left hand. The Corbin seat pan is much heavier than stock and doesn't want to pop-up on its own when you release the seat lock. Once you have raised the seat up as far as you can till it hits the rack cross bar, pull the whole seat rearwards, and then lift the front edge of the seat up past the tank.

At least that's how I remember it... I hated that leather covered brick of a seat with a passion and got rid of it as fast as I could. :(
