I just purchased a used GIVI SR346 Top Case Mounting Rack and GIVI E460 Top Case from a fellow forum member and I have some quesitons about the installtion of the GIVI SR346 Top Case Mounting Rack.

First of all, does anyone know if GIVI has electronic versions of their installation manuals for their products online? I checked the GIVI USA site, but could not find anything. If not, has anyone scanned their hard copy of the installaiton instructions? Here's my quesitons/concerns.

  • What bolts from the factory luggage rack are re-used for mounting the SR346? I was given a couple of bolts with the mounting rack. One is just a little shorter than the top center bolt that holds the factory luggage rack on... I'm assuming that I need to use this bolt instead of the factory bolt since it looks like the mounting flange thickness of the GIVI mount is much thinner than that of the factory luggage rack. The other bolt that I was provided is more that twice the length of any of the factory bolts. I can't figure where I would need to use that bolt... that is if I need to.
  • Do I need to remove the small nylon screw or push pin that is located slightly to the rear of the center mounting bolt?
  • It looks like I should use some time of protective material between the GIVI mounting plate and the painted area where the top center bolt mounts... am I right or wrong?
  • The GIVI rack seems to fit on the bike without major interference. Their is a slight inteference however between the rectangular cutout areas just behind the passenger's seat where the mounting posts of the rack slide down for the bolts by the rear brack lights. I see where Tom Catron enlarged these features a little to prevent interference as documented here. I'm trying to decide if I want to shave material off or not and I wanted to see if many other people did this or not during their installation.
  • I have a red wire and blue wire on from the GIVI rack for the stop light kit and I'm assuming that the red wire is positive and the blue wire is the ground. Am I correct?
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give me.

@fjr

Thank you for your attempt to provide me with additional assistance.

@everyone

Well, in my continued research it seems as if there is suppose to be some type of protective disk as shown in the picture below that is suppose to go between the GIVI rack and the painted surface on the tail of the bike where the top center bolt attaches. Can anyone confirm my previous statement? If so, what material is this protective disk made of? I didn't know if this is something that I could make or if I need to contact GIVI to see if I can have them send it to me.

If anyone knows Philip Gray - "graytaz" from the old "FJR Owners" forum, could you please let me know if you can assist me with getting in touch with him? He had posted some installation instructions for the GIVI SR346 mounting rack, but the link in his post is no longer valid. I wanted to see if he still has the electronic copy of these instructions that he could send me. Anyway, thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Did you ever get a response? What hardware other than the OEM Yamaha stuff was needed to mount the rack to the bike? I'm getting ready to do this tomorrow and would sure like to know, before digging in, what fasteners and such (if any) are not part of this used rack I bought.

i'm not using a brake light for the e460. i'm wondering what, if any, additional hardware is needed other than the fasteners available after removing the oem rack.

I'm going from memory here, but I seem to recall only 5 unique parts. 1 was a shorter bolt for the rear rack hole. The other four were sleeve bushings to prevent the Givi rack channels from collapsing when you tightened the mounting bolts. I probably still have the instructions with the original rack if I can find them. There was also a nylon washer that beardo is showing and a couple of foam pieces to close the gaps where the rack goes through the fairing. The foam doen't seem necessary to me. If I can find the instructions, I'll note the parts list.

thanks. the parts list would be helpful; especially if it includes sizes.

as typical, i violated IBA rule #5 (no last minute changes before a ride).

i've got to get all the parts nlt saturday so that it can all be installed for my monday departure. no time to try and **** with givi and their reps since they all keep pointing back to the "kit" which includes the rack. all i need is the bag-o-bolts that came with the rack. if it's sleeves and 1 shorter bolt, i think i can work it up from the local fastener shop or ace hardware. but i have to get it done before everyone's closed on sunday.

@RonBB

Thanks for the wiring help... I have not wired the brake light yet.

@Bounce

Well I might be a little too late for helping you if you're installing it tomorrow, but check out this link

Here's a link to the full size file sent to me by GIVI that I've uploaded.

I ended up stacking a couple of washers with a nut in place of the spacers that go between the two flanges where you mount the rack with the bolts that are parallel to the ground.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions let me know or feel free to give me a call. You should have my cell phone number from SFO 2006... the list that FJRChick emailed out to attendees.

Sorry I'm late. The parts list/instructions that Beardo links to is the same one I found in my FJR spares box this morning.

Sorry I wasn't able to find this faster.
