We were there a couple of days ago and was only able to ride in 16 miles. Still worth the trip. We are in the UP of Michigan on the way home.

Great news Kevin! The PNW crew will be traveling over it on Monday on the [winding] way to Spearfish. Any construction we need to be concerned about?

Looks like we only missed it by 5 weeks! Did I mention that we nearly hit 2 mountain lions crossing the road along the NE portion of the park?

I need to get over GTTS sometime...the closest experience I have is going over Bear Tooth pass near Red Lodge MT. That was in late July...the weather was awesome and the scenery was worthy, but I heard that others who went over that same pass two weeks later were caught in a near white-out blizzard and had to duck paddle their bikes through several miles of snowy road. Same thing can happen on GTTS, but that's part of the appeal...not knowing what you are going to get. :)

I cheat. I look at the weather report the day before. ;)

We did the Bighorns, Chief Joseph Hwy, Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph Pass, and GNP last summer in August. It was the ride of a lifetime.

Finally got to ride the GTTS road on sunday, 2 days after it opened. What an incredible road through impressive scenery. Too much traffic for high speed shenanigans, but I was riding with wife on her bike and another couple on a Wingabago pulling a trailer anyway. Saw a bunch of Bighorn sheep at the top and a big 'ol grizzly descending to the east. Surprisingly little snow up top which bodes poorly for our water supplies in the west. :(
