I haven't done a 50 CC (or a 38 CC) yet, nor will I ever, but when I'm traveling E - W and pass into a new time zone I get an extra hour of clock time, which roughly translates into an extra hour of daylight. I'd rather ride in the day than the night, so that might be worth considering.
I suppose if you're thinking about doing a ride like this and you're already on one of the coasts, that would restrict your choice too.

It was cool meeting all the new faces and seeing familiar faces again at Yosemite
The ride was tiring for me but still was a lot of fun. Might not have got it done without Tony's expertise, the guy knows his stuff.
