Well, I made an appointment today for a complete physical. I'm one of the younger folks around here, only turning 35 next month, but I'm noticing things already here and there with the body. I swear I feel like I'm 75 on the inside. I've been battling plantar fasciitis for four months, I had to have back surgery a year ago to replace a disc and I've got four or five other ailments that just seem to nag. That's all the stuff I know about because I can see it or feel it. It's the stuff I can't see yet that scares me. With the loss of TWN and others, it just got me thinking that it probably wasn't a bad idea to go in and just get this done. I certainly have no idea if a pre-emptive strike would have helped TWN or others, but maybe it will help me. Here's hoping a few others around here will take the same message to heart. I don't want to see anyone else leave us so suddenly.

That doctor's hands can't be too big and cold, right?

Ya know, Pig, the first time I went in for the 'love tap' , the Dr. (whom I'd not met before) stood about 6'9" and could have easily palmed a basketball.

Since then, I've always tried to pick Dr.'s with more 'petite' digits.

Never had my tonsils poked from the back side before.

Oh yeah - it's good you're doing this. Finding ANYTHING early is the preferred method.

Have fun !!!

As I sit here with my knee propped up after having minor surgery, all I can say is - it gets worse... :(

Hey jpig

Your statement that you feel like 75 inside is as good a reason as any to go for that check-up...

I think you're doing the right thing and hope everything checks out rosy

It's certainly no joy to go to work on a daily bases if your body feels like it had received a beating in a torture chamber.

****, wait til you hit forty.

I think a lot of us die (men) because we don't go in for checkups, or we do and don't have competent doctors. (This is no comment on TWN's untimely passing.) Just do it. Remember, a prostate exam is nothing but that. Find out what your situation is and what you can do to extend your life. My doctor is clear with me--quit doing anything you enjoy.

Pfffffffft!!!! That ain't diddley... some of us are at the doorstep of the Big-Half-Century mark......

hehe, that is about when I have started to realize that I am not getting younger. Instead of going to the doctor I signed up for the martial arts. After you are done there nothing else hurts :)

Good luck and thanks for reminding about the need for medical.

Think of it as preventive maintenance / bike maintenance,,, like changing the oil /spark plugs / etc. ....

And some of us have done passed the Half Century mark....

I've been cut on ,, poked & prodded ,, had nasty stuff poured in one end or the other,,, etc . etc.

I can buy a shiny new bike ,, but I'm stuck with the same old body,, so guess I'm stuck with maintenance..

If I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.... :dribble:

But as a friend once told me,,,,,, "Getting old ain't for sissies"... Old & Slow Dan <<<<

I'm with Scab! I thought 35 was getting a little rough. But, when I hit 40, wow. What the hell? It's all some strange recipe of genetics, luck, and how hard the miles were that you've put on your body to date. Cougar's comment also made me chuckle. While martial arts can take a toll on the body (I had about 16 years in before I stopped), it also reminded me of one of the supremely enlightening mantras of getting older: Stretch. When I take time to stretch - and I mean fifteen minutes at least - my body feels infinitely better. Start now. Work it in to your daily routine. It's worth the time investment.

Good for you for doing the complete physical. It is amazing what a competent doctor can discern from blood work and a thorough once-over. I'm relatively new here and had never met TWN, but I was nevertheless shocked when I read that he had passed. I'm deeply sorry for his family and his many friends.

Punk kid......you ain't gotta clue. Hell at my age (67) 75 doesn't look to be all that old!

Before having a prostate exam, I need to make an appointment to have a glass of wine with the doctor to get to know him/her better  .

All of you complaining about the aging process can do something about it. I'm going to turn 50 next month and I ran (not jogged, but ran) 8 miles yesterday and today lifted weights which included 54 pullups, 105 crunches pulling 100 lbs. up from behind. I can run the mile in 6 minutes 27 seconds and my goal was to do a 6 minute flat mile before 50. I don't think I'm going to be able to meet that goal. I started seriously working out at 30 because that's when i started to put on weight. I like to eat a lot (my nickname at work was the electric fork) and I did not want to eat salads for the rest of my life.

Working out 5 to 6 days a week allows me to eat well, keeps me in great shape, controls my weight and I think makes me at least 10 years younger physiologically speaking.

And some are well in and headed for the toilet. Again.

Geez, I didn't do that when I was 18! I can't do it now!

All you health nuts are going to be surprised as hell one day when you drop dead for no reason...

On my last Dr. visit ,, he told me I should lose some weight ,,,,, I told him , If it weren't for the Beer and the Food I probably could...

He didn't think that was funny.... Then he ask ," You Drink ??" (does a bear **** in the woods ???)

When I told him how much ,,, I thought he was going to have a coronary,,,,,

Told me I should drink more water......

They use water to make Beer ,,, don't they ?????????? :yahoo:
