I'm planning a ride from Ft. Worth to Alaska on June 15th, 2013. I'm planning on 3 weeks and will primarily camp along the way.

I'm looking for 1 or 2 more riders to join me on the trip. I'm a 53 year old Financial Planner, 35 years experience on the bike and have wanted to make this trip for several years.

If anyone is interested, or knows of someone who might be interested, please contact me.

Thanks,

Kevin Nichols

What route were you thinking?

Calgary and edmonton? Vancouver? Seattle and inland ferries?

What is your ultimate destination? Skagway? Anchorage? Fairbanks? Deadhorse?

I was thinking of going next year if my situation doesn't improve, but was kinda leaning toward taking my volvo and motorcycle trailer, putting up in once place for a while and sightseeing with the bike. Yes I am soft. And old. And lazy.

Keep us up on what you have going and maybe I'll change my mind and tough it out.

Steve

I might go but only if we are going up the pipeline to barrow. We'll need a case of fix-a-flat. Jes sayin'.

The plan is to go from Ft. Worth to the Prudhoe Bay. Approximately 10,000 miles, 21 days, or 450 to 500 miles per day. Mostly camping, but a few motels here and there to maintain sanity (and hygiene).

Not much of a sightseeing trip, 3 weeks is all that I can commit to this at this point, albeit getting there will be a sightseeing trip in and of itself.

I'm planning on going from Ft. Worth to Idaho (2 days) to Meet Paul (from this forum), then North into Canada and Northwest into Alaska. I'd like to go up the Dalton Hwy to stick my foot in the Arctic Ocean, and then come back.

The journey IS the event, the destination is simply geography, although spectacular geography at that!

If you're interested in joining us, so far there are 2 of us going and we haven't set any of our plans in stone. So, if you'd like to join us along the route, or meet up with us somewhere, or need to leave a week or so either side of June15th, then let me know.

Kevin

I'm taking Kevin's invite and joining him from Idaho through Canada into Alaska. Was planning on another Iron Butt ride, but this will have to take it's place. Now, to spend all winter getting the bike ready for the trip. :yahoo:

Wow, you are in town and taking my dream trip. I got another year or two at this job before I start acruing 3 weeks of vacation a year though and we've actually just about got all my vacation time planned out for next year. I look forward to your trip report though for sure!

Well, the Haul Road will take you to Deadhorse /. Prudhoe Bay, but there aint no road to Barrow, I'm afraid. Unless, of course, you happen to be in the Deadhorse area in Feb/March in a year when an ice road is built to haul some equip or other stuff over to Barrow, which is very infrequent these days. Only way into Barrow for most folks is by air. And the pipeline does not go to Barrow.

Riding through Bozeman, MT last year, we were strongly referred to a joint called the Pickle Barrel for the best sandwiches around. I heartily recommend it. They make good sandwiches. Good, BIG sandwiches.

I liked it so much I took one of their stickers ("PB") and put it on my side case with the Yellowstone and Moab ones. When people ask me what "PB" stands for, naturally I always tell them it's Point Barrow. I bet you could make it on an FJR, Ralph. If you really tried.

I will keep an eye on your posts Kevin. I am from Tulsa and have been looking to go to Prudhoe for years! I envision my route to go up through Helena, MT to Calgary then Prince George and up the Al-Can to Fairbanks. Then North on the Dalton to Pruhdoe! I have the time and should be financially sound in a month or so to take off. I come to DFW all the time and would like to connect. How do you suggest we do that?

I know a few guys have taken their FJR's up there and have issues with radiator screens clogging!

The other run I want to do is up the Dempster Hwy to Inuvik! But, you need a dula sport like a Super Tenere to do that run becasue it's many, mnay mileson gravel and dirt! Great run 253 miles north of the Artic Circel 66 degrees 33 minutes North!
