So the local Yamaha dealer has a Black Cherry '07 with 6000 miles on it, it's been tipped over in a parking lot and has some light scratches on the lower fairing and the right side bag. He's asking $11,700, but I know the bike's been there for almost 6 months.

What's a fair going rate for an '07? I was thinking about offering him $10K and seeing if he choked.

I'd say $10k would be absolutely tops. Don't start there. Offer him $8500 and stop before bargaining before you get to $10K. The bike is used, has relatively high miles (considering it sat for 6 months), it's damaged and the 08's are rolling in. He might have wanted $11,700 6 months ago (which is why it is still sitting there) and it dropped 1500 when the 08's arrived. Considering it needs paint repair at the minimum and probably new tires pretty soon so you'll have way too much in it at $10K.

Not to mention that I know of 2 dealers that would sell a brand new 07 for 11700. Granted, they are in WA but I imagine the you could find one too.

pay 10k fix paint /buy tires and he will be bumping 11,00 for a soon to be out of warranty bike

Its a ways away from you (600 miles per Mapquest), but there was (as of about a month ago) an '07 demo with about 500 miles on it at a dealer (Moon Motorsports) in central Minn. With the current Yamaha cash back on the 07's ($300), you should be able to get it for no more than $11k.

Here in NM the dealers won't go any lower then a coupla hundie off list. When I told them what I was reading here they hollered "Bull Crap! The money is hidden in the destination costs" anyway I paid full pop and was happy to do so, I've got 12000 on mine already, you can't ride what you don't have. 49 and clear today Woo Hoo :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Thanks to all for the info. Waiting on the salesperson to chat with the sales manager, and see if they even consider $8500. If they don't, they don't. We'll negotiate from there! :)

There's also a non-ABS 2005 at a broker here, but they're asking $7999 - which after this conversation, seems rather high?
