I'll be traveling to Andover, MA over Memorial weekend and I'm looking to take some good rides up there. Any suggestions?

From Andover, head north to get away from the traffic of the Boston Metro area. Massachusetts' only good riding is in the Berkshires, way over on the west side of I-91, and that is about 90 minutes west of Andover just to get to the good stuff.

Instead, head north up I-93 and in about 1/2 hour you're in Manchester, NH. Here's a nice route starting and ending from Bedford, NH (near Manchester) that will take you over some of the nicer riding roads in southern NH.

I was thinking the OP was looking for a day ride from Andover, MA and returning there. Unless he is planning on more time away from his home base much if New England would be out of range, which was why I suggested the route I did.

I was just providing a good general New England reference - mostly for getting there and back. I haven't done much riding in MA or in the southern part of NH - other than passing through a few times.

Fred - the one you posted looks like a nice relaxing afternoon, as long as traffic isn't too bad.

Once you clear west of Manchester and get off the highway, traffic is seldom an issue. Lots of places to pass any slower cars (legally) on those routes too. Being right in my backyard, I tend to find myself on pieces of that track pretty regularly.

Stay off of route 2 eastbound in the am or westbound in the pm. In addition to the horrible commuter traffic since it connects Boston to the rest of the world, it also lines up with the sun. I hate route 2.

Some of the roads in central MA are ok if the sand, grass, and frost heaves have been sorted. Roads that go no where, like to Barre, or Winchendon might be ok.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I'm going to head up into NH and check out that loop Fred mentioned. I'm itching to ride again at home too. It's been cold & raining here for a week.

You didn't say when it would be, but if you'd like company, I'd be glad to come along. Send me a PM.

OTOH... if you'd rather explore alone, I'd fully understand. I prefer it myself often.
