I'm here in Dallas (from L.A.) on business and tomorrow morning I'm renting an '05 FJR for a few hours before my flight back to la-la-land. I'm picking up the FJR near DFW Airport. Any recommendations for hilly / twisty riding roads that aren't too far away from DFW?

Thanks. I ended up renting an '05 FJR (holy 'hot thighs' compared to my '06!) near Bass Pro Drive in Grapevine. Told Charles from SportRyderRentals.com that I only had time for a 4-hour ride before my flight back to LA from DFW. He drew me a not-to-scale map of how to get to the 51 highway near Weatherford. He neglected to say he'd never driven there from Grapevine, and assumed it would take me about 25 minutes to reach highway 51.

Unfortunately, it took over an hour to get there, mostly on the 820 and 20 freeways. :angry2: Return trip was even longer due to Friday afternoon traffic (and no California-like lane-sharing allowed in TX), so I didn't have long to tool around when I finally reached the 51, but it was fun.

Odot: So true! I didn't realize Dallas / Fort Worth is mostly flat, and hills/mountains make for more challenging/scenic roads.

Oh well, at least I got in some good ol' Texas saddle time. Folks are friendlier there...I had a few cagers actually smile and wave to me when I rode next to them! Here in LA I shoot wavers and ask questions later.

Cagers smile............and wave? Not here, dude. Were you wearing clothes?

Come on down to my neck of the woods in the Rio Grande Valley - waaaayyyyyy down South TX. Friendly drivers? Hell no, they try to kill you. I'm not joking either. Everyday a biker takes his/her life in their hands down here. We have very rude drivers. They lane share, cut you off at intersections, cross the road in front of you - you name it. A year ago while driving in the truck I got cut off twice within a 3 block. I was on the main road and a couple of asses on 2 different streets, 3 blocks apart, jumped out in front of me from the side streets forcing me to slam on my breaks to avoid rear-ending them. Oh, that's normal around here. Same thing happened today at least 5 or 6 times while driving around today in the cage. Friendly drivers in TX???? Hmmmmmm. Me thinks you were asleep and dreaming.
