Goofy, Hilarious "CHiPS" Movie

I don't go to the movies too often--mostly because every movie I think I might enjoy ends up being just stupid and usually totally fake CGI b.s. Still, sometimes you're in the mood for stupid and my afternoon was wide open, so I went and saw "CHiPS." Never liked the old TV series, but the movie looked funny in the previews (like every "comedy" always does), but this time I was pleasantly surprised. There was a lot of motorcycle content, and some very good riding to enjoy, for one thing, and a lot of talk about motorcycles too, a point most reviewers probably won't bother mentioning. Story was a little silly--or damn silly, in the sense of being very far-fetched, and there was a surprising level of really extreme violence and **** for a not-Vin-Diesel movie, including one rider being pursued right into a cable stretched across the road at about, um, neck level.

But still, beyond that, a LOT of real belly laughs, I thought. Your wife might not like it too much. Maybe go with your buddies. Curious how others here might react.

I loved the old TV show growing up. That being said, when I saw it was an R rated remake, I was initially hesitant. After seeing the previews I am DYING to see this. I think Dax is hilarious and I figure it will be a great movie to see.

I laughed out loud more than once in the theater. I was a fan of the t.v. show though...Madhya that is why I started riding in the late 70's!

Saw "Ghost In The Shell" today. Some may bash it but I liked it. If you liked the manga/anime then you'll probably like the movie too.

Avi Arad was involved so there may still be a chance for SJ to lead a Black Widow movie if this does well in the box office (it should). As usual I side with the audience instead of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

CHiPs could have been better without all the gay references and "eating ***" -- "everyone's doing it". The motorcycle scenes were great, especially the Ducati chase scenes. I give it a "6". They could have left off the gay scenes and added more motorcycle scenes!

Lots of shows are forcing a gay couple into their story line. It's not organic and clearly wedged in there to be cool.

It was a comedy about motorcycle cops, so not exactly a motorcycle movie, as in it is not a movie about motorcycles. Although, neither do I understand the gratuitous nature of gay content in shows these days, for whatever intent. I don't think it does anything positive for them, except maybe push the narrative that it is more commonplace than it actually might be in the world outside of SF and LA.

I wouldn't expect a movie about gay cops to add unwarranted motorcycle content, just so the motorcycle community can feel better about itself.

Didn't seem like there was any attempt at gay programming towards anyone. Looked to me like it was all meant to be funny. We laughed our ***** off.

Mrs Bug and I went this rainy afternoon. We were in the mood for a goof ball somewhat raunchy movie and we laughed a lot! Normally I get tired of the gay stuff but in this movie it was funny. 2 thumbs up from us, and there was plenty of laughter from the women in the theatre.

Some good riding in the stunt scenes although Ducati isn't the only four valve v twin motor in a supermotard. Gotta see the movie to understand.

My only problem is I could see was AJ as Ponch, that made it even funnier.

Every time I see someone use the phrase "gay agenda" it makes me laugh out loud. How about 80 years of Hollywood pushing the "straight agenda"?

I mean really....what's up with that?

First of all, it's not a motorcycle movie, it's a movie with California Highway Patrol (predominately with motorcycle cops).

Secondly, as Knifemaker alluded to, if you're going to complain about the so-called "gay agenda," be sure to also complain about every movie ever featuring a scantily clad woman, or featuring ****ies or cleavage or a woman's ***. In my opinion, that very rarely adds any value to a movie, regardless of genre.

The ironically funny part of the "gay agenda" is that after the gay daddies butt-**** each other for years, but still can't produce a progeny, they go and adopt a product of the "straight agenda".

Frankly, unwarranted content, is just that - unwarranted. Just like the direction this thread headed into starting from post #9. Including this post.

Live and let live, if you don't like something - then don't like it, and if you want to speak out against it, do so if you feel like it is warranted. Live your life, include what you want to include, exclude what you want to exclude. If you aren't hurting anyone in the real sense of the word. Let others do the same.

It seems this movie is headed for rental for me, but it will probably show up on HBO sooner or later, so I won't have to rent it.

PS - Brokeback Mountain was a good movie, but honestly it would have been much better if those cowboys rode motorcycles instead of each other.. JSNS!
