Google maps uses a format of 32.106600, -100.987600

Input those values in MapSource, it squawks.

Mapsource under Edit-->Preferences has settings for Grid and Datum..

Anyone know what combination to use to make MapSource accept/calculate the Google Maps data?

My MapSource currently set to:

Grid = WGS 84

Datum = Lat/Lon hdddomm.mm'

TIA

Looks like google uses decimal degrees so I would try grid=Lat/Lon hddd.ddddd and leave datum at WGS84

Mapsource needs N, S, E, or W. Your numbers would be N32.106600 W100.987600.

Positive latitude is North, negative is South. Positive longitude is East, negative is West.

Still need to set Preferences as orestes states.

Kreston Kowboy Kid: AAA Office's at 1445 Calle Joaquin in San Luis Obispo, get yourself a nice map and a magnifying glass!

You know my feelings about GPS and cellphones: Trabajo del El Diablo! What's next? Taking the kickstarter off our motos?

Google Maps will also accept DMS, in this format:

  • 46° 1' 54.01" N, 123° 22' 0.01" W
at least when you're entering destinations.

But that's even more of a conversion from the Google Maps data he's asking about.

Hey Carver, are you just trying to get routes and waypoints from Google Maps into your GPS receiver? If so, get the TYRE utility. It loads the Google Maps link and can save it as a .gpx file, which you then open with MapSource, calculate, and transfer to your receiver. The site says it's made for TomTom, but it works with a bunch of file formats. See my mapping programs thread if you haven't, yet.

My Mapsource is set the same as yours......just leave off the last number from Google.......works fine........you will never need the extra precision of the last digit...........you can get a good location from four numbers......six is overkill. I have the Garmin 530 and a 205 and a wristwatch model all set to the same datum........very handy and they all work fine using five numbers.
